The last domino has fallen for the New York Jets.
Rookie tight end Mason Taylor has come to terms with the green and white on his four-year $10.6 million contract.
NFL Network Reporter Cameron Wolfe broke the news on social media.
“Jets and 2nd round rookie TE Mason Taylor have agreed terms on 4-year, $10.46 million deal with 91.3% of deal guaranteed ($9.56 million), per his agent Sammy Spin,” Wolfe said. “Taylor gets 60% of year 4 salary guaranteed, 55% increase from slot No.42 last year. Fully camp ready.”

There had been a holdup since the conclusion of the 2025 NFL draft with the majority of second-round picks. The Houston Texans gave rookie wide receiver Jayden Higgins a fully guaranteed contract as the No. 34 overall pick in the second round. That was the first fully guaranteed deal for a second-rounder in NFL history.
That created quite a ruckus with the rest of the league as they attempted to sign their second-round draft choices. Eventually, when it rains, it pours, and contracts have been falling into place this week as training camps are set to begin.
No Drama for the Jets in Training Camp
Last offseason, the Jets were full of drama centered around the Haason Reddick holdout. Will he show up? If so, when will he show up?
This offseason, it’s all smooth sailing.
The Jets locked in their two cornerstone players with a franchise-altering $250 million investment in cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
If the Jets hadn’t signed them ahead of training camp, that could have created plenty of drama throughout what remains of the offseason and potential drama during the season if things don’t go well.
The last domino to fall was the Taylor contract situation. Gang Green locked in the rest of their rookie class earlier this offseason. Now the team can focus solely on football, which is something head coach Aaron Glenn prefers.
Jets Are Putting Taylor in His Best Position to Succeed
For the uninformed, rookies who aren’t under contract can’t be present or participate in NFL training camps. Earlier in the offseason, a player participation agreement could be signed to circumvent the rules during the spring that protect the players, just in case they get hurt.
That doesn’t exist when we reach training camp.
In other words, if the Jets and Taylor’s representatives hadn’t resolved the contract situation, he would have been forced to miss valuable practice reps.
Now that he is under contract, that won’t be an issue. That is great news for Taylor and the Jets.
He has a path to being the No. 2 or No. 3 pass catcher in this offense in a best-case scenario, only behind Garrett Wilson and maybe Breece Hall. The more reps he can get in practice, the more work he can get in this new offense, and the more chemistry he can build with Justin Fields, the better off he will be.
Taylor, 21, finished his three-year college career at LSU with 129 receptions for 1,308 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.
“Overall, Taylor was Mr. Reliable in the LSU offense — and can be the same for an NFL team, because of his good-sized athleticism, reliable ball skills, and competitive blocking. He projects as a solid NFL starter who doesn’t have to leave the field and has some similarities to Hunter Henry,” Dane Brugler of The Athletic wrote in “The Beast.”
