Jets Get Concerning News on QB Justin Fields

The New York Jets signed Justin Fields to be their QB1 in 2025.

Nick Faria of Jets X-Factor shared some concerning observations he has noticed throughout the spring during an appearance on my podcast, “The Manchild Show with Boy Green Digital.”

“Some of the issues that we saw earlier in his career: completion percentage in the fourth quarter, being late on his reads, being too slow to process, bailing from the pocket a little bit too early, all of those things have followed him over the last four years with the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers. You’re seeing similar things happen at minicamp. You saw it happen where some of the issues he had where he was late on some of his throws, he was late in his processing, that was happening at minicamp,” Faria revealed on the podcast.

“Now, in fairness to him, he is learning a new offense, and he is working with new people all around him. So it is going to take some time to gel and to get up to speed with the talent that he does have at his disposal. The big question, of course, is [whether] the Justin Fields’ [performance] over the last four years should be cause for concern going into training camp?

I know a lot of Jets fans are hoping a new system, they’re going to focus with him on playing quarterback, and all of that is going to be really really good, but I can’t unsee what I’ve seen. A lot of the things that I saw at minicamp were similar things that he has struggled with at the NFL level to this point,” Faria added.

Diving Deeper Into the Potential Issues With Fields

Faria attended the OTAs practices and mandatory minicamp. So his observations are his observations.

However, for what it’s worth, Jets senior reporter Eric Allen pushed against this media narrative on the “Official Jets Podcast.”

“The other thing I do want to comment on a little bit is that I know a lot of people are saying, a couple of the reporters have talked about it, and I’m not taking shots here, but they have said he [Fields] has held onto the ball a little bit. Okay, he is learning a new system too, and he is also learning his receivers,” Allen explained. “There is going to be steps along the way.”

If Fields struggles in the regular season, then okay, we have an issue here, but any criticism or overanalysis during the spring and summer months feels premature.

Also, the issues Fields dealt with at previous stops weren’t all on him. Terrible coaching and a bad roster played a role in some of his struggles.

The Jets are the best opportunity Fields has had at the NFL level. A talented offensive line, a star wide receiver, and a talented group of running backs. That doesn’t guarantee that he will be successful in New York, but it does give him a chance.
