Jets HC Aaron Glenn Fires off Post-Game Message to Justin Fields’ Critics

Justin Fields made his preseason debut for the New York Jets on Saturday, August 9.

Following the team’s blowout 30-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers, head coach Aaron Glenn had a clear message for Fields’ critics.

“Well, here is what I would say because there is so much noise on the outside. Again, I’ve told you guys this, and I’ll tell him this; he is going to be criticized for every little thing. The good thing for him is that he is so mature and we talk about this on a consistent basis, that he doesn’t care,” Coach Glenn explained after the game.

“Alright, the only thing that we care about is how is he operating? Is he getting better? We see that in-house. So we love where he is at right now. Does he have a ways to go? Absolutely, he does. Is he going to continue to work? Absolutely, he will because that is just who he is. We know exactly where he is at, we know exactly where we are going, and we’re going to continue to work our [expletive] off until we get there,” Glenn added.

Exciting Debut for Fields in a Jets Uniform

Coach Glenn revealed earlier in the week that the Jets’ starters would play against the Packers. We just didn’t know for how long.

It ended up being only one drive, but Coach Glenn preferred quality over quantity.

Fields completed 75% of his passes (3-of-4), had 42 passing yards, and added 14 yards on the ground.

The Jets marched down the field on a 10-play 79-yard drive, capped off by a 13-yard rushing touchdown by Fields.

NFL Insider Reacts to Fields’ Performance: EXCLUSIVE

NFL Insider Matt Lombardo joined me for his weekly appearance on “Boy Green Daily” on Sunday, August 10.

“Yeah, that is what you want to see. Preseason football isn’t necessarily about wins and losses; it’s not even always about the production, but you got the full Justin Fields experience. He looked confident and comfortable in the pocket; he was mobile as he has always been throughout his career,” Lombardo told me. “I think most importantly, he moved the football. You got a little bit of a glimpse of what that offense is going to look like: feeding off his mobility, you funnel the offense through the tight ends, he always did during his time in Chicago.”

Top Social Media Reactions to Fields’ Preseason Debut With the Jets

ESPN’s Rich Cimini listed Fields as one of his top stock-up players coming off the game.

“Workmanlike TD drive. Flashed mobility. Showed patience, taking checkdowns when [the] deep ball wasn’t there,” Cimini posted on X previously Twitter.

“One and done for Justin Fields. Jets got exactly what they needed out of him today. Fair to be encouraged by tonight,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said.
