Jets HC Aaron Glenn Makes Feelings Clear on Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn moved on from starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason.

He had no intentions of walking back down memory lane to revisit his decision during his media availability on Tuesday, September 2.

A media member asked Coach Glenn what he saw on film when he was trying to decide whether to keep Rodgers or not, and what he has left at his age.

“That has been gone. So I’m not going to answer questions about guys that aren’t here & what I saw,” Glenn responded.

“What about scouting him now?” a media member followed up.

“Like I just said, I’m not finna sit here & answer questions on what I saw back then. It’s not relevant to right now,” Glenn said.

After the Jets released Rodgers, he eventually joined the Steelers on a one-year contract with a maximum value of $19.5 million this offseason.

Glenn Was Willing to Talk About Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers

While Glenn had no interest in talking about Rodgers’ past with the Jets and their decision, he was willing to discuss the quarterback’s accolades.

“He challenges in all ways: a thrower, getting the guys in and out of the huddle, being able to see the defense, [and] being able to put the guys in the right positions. Listen, he is a future Hall of Famer, we all know that. So he is going to cause problems no matter what,” Glenn said when asked about Rodgers.

A Possible Advantage for the Jets?

The four-time NFL MVP spent the last two years with the Jets. Rodgers intimately knows the Jets and their players. However, those players also know Rodgers from practicing against him during that period.

“You know what, I do,” Glenn said when asked if some of the Jets’ defensive players who were here last year have an advantage having practiced against Rodgers. “But man, this guy is a vet. He has seen it all. He has gone against a number of guys, but I do think there is some value to our guys having been a part of that.”

One of the ways the Jets’ defensive players benefited was just being around Rodgers, Glenn explained. He has a wealth of football information, and the Jets’ defensive players took advantage of those moments.

There Is Bad Blood Between Jets and Rodgers

Rodgers didn’t paint a pretty picture when discussing his final meeting with the new Jets brass of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey.

In early February, Rodgers flew cross-country to meet with the Jets to talk about his future. 20 seconds into that meeting, according to Rodgers, Coach Glenn asked him, “So do you want to play football?”

Rodgers responds, “Yeah, I’m interested.”

Glenn quickly says back, “We are going in a different direction at quarterback,” Rodgers explains on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Rodgers said he felt “disrespected” in the meeting. In Week 1, he will have his chance at revenge when he returns to MetLife Stadium as a member of the opposing team.
