Jets Lose Rookie for the Season, Sign 25-Year-Old DL

The New York Jets have lost rookie defensive lineman Tyler Baron for the rest of the 2025 season.

Gang Green announced on social media that they placed Baron on injured reserve. With only four games remaining in the Jets’ 2025 season, that means Baron won’t play another snap this year. When a player is placed on IR, they’re forced to miss a minimum of four games.

Baron injured his knee during the first quarter of the 34-10 blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 14. He had to be carted off the field.

A Disappointing End for a Disappointing Rookie Season

Baron, 24, entered the league as the No. 176 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft.

As a matter of fact, the Jets liked Baron so much they traded up for him. During April’s draft, the Jets struck a deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

The green and white moved up in 2025, jumping from the sixth round to the fifth round. It cost them that same pick swap in 2026, falling from the fifth round to the sixth round.

With the lack of activity at defensive end during the offseason, Baron figured to have a big role on the Jets during his rookie season. However, it never came to fruition.

Baron appeared in six games and never made a start. He appeared in 95 defensive snaps. With those opportunities, the former Miami pass rusher finished with nine total tackles, one tackle for loss, and zero sacks or quarterback hits.

“I mean, I don’t know if we ever see him play for the Jets again. That has been a bad pick from day one. Him and Arian Smith are probably the two worst picks from that draft class by far,” ESPN radio host Jake Asman told me on “The Manchild Show with Boy Green Digital.”

Jets Announce Flurry of Roster Moves Ahead of Week 15

When the Jets placed Baron on IR, that created an open spot on the 53-man roster. The green and white signed defensive lineman Eric Watts to replace Baron.

“Watts (6-5, 277) went undrafted in 2024 and earned a spot on the Jets roster last season. The UConn product appeared in 14 games and registered 13 tackles. In August 2025, he was waived by the Jets as part of final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. Watts was elevated for Week 13 and played 16 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps. He recorded 3 tackles in the win over Atlanta,” Jets editorial contributor Susanna Weir wrote in a press release.

The Jets also made some moves on their practice squad. They officially announced the signing of quarterback Adrian Martinez and tight end Nick Muse.

Martinez had been with the Jets for the last year and a half before choosing to join the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad in late August. He got cut this week by San Fran.

“Muse (6-5, 252) was a seventh-round draft selection of the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. After being signed to the team’s practice squad in August 2022, he spent 3 seasons in Minnesota and appeared in 16 games. Muse, who played collegiately for William & Mary and South Carolina, had stints with the Eagles’, Cardinals’, and Rams’ practice squads this season. He was released by Los Angeles on Tuesday,” Weir wrote in a press release.
