Welcome to the show.
The New York Jets announced on Saturday, December 6, that they have signed rookie quarterback Brady Cook to the 53-man roster. They also signed rookie defensive back Jordan Clark, son of ESPN personality Ryan Clark, to the 53-man roster.
In a series of corresponding roster moves, the Jets placed starting slot corner Jarvis Brownlee Jr and team captain linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball on injured reserve.
With only five regular-season games remaining, both Brownlee and McCrary-Ball could, in theory, return for the Week 18 finale. However, the more likely scenario is that their 2025 Jets seasons are now over.
Jets Will Carry 3 Quarterbacks on the 53-Man Roster
Backup quarterback Justin Fields was ruled out for the Week 14 Miami Dolphins game due to “knee soreness.”
Head coach Aaron Glenn had already revealed that meant that Cook would serve as the QB2 on Sunday, December 7.
However, what we didn’t know was which lever the Jets would pull. A temporary practice squad elevation for this game? Or outright signing him to the roster?
We got our answer on Saturday.
That means the Jets will carry three quarterbacks on the roster moving forward. Tyrod Taylor will get the start versus the Dolphins, but Cook is just one injury away from stepping on the field and making his on-field regular-season debut.
Cook Breaks Silence on New Opportunity With the Green and White
After Coach Glenn shared the news with the media, Cook spoke on Friday, December 5, about this golden opportunity.
“It’s exciting. It’s exciting, obviously, from a personal level, you are always looking for that next opportunity, and this is mine. To back up Tyrod this week, it’s a pleasure, I’m excited,” Cook said.
On Friday, Coach Glenn described Cook as a “fiery guy.”
“I think competitive is the word. To play quarterback, you have to be competitive. That has to be in your blood, that has to be what you’re about, and that’s definitely me. Practice, meetings, film, walk-through, preseason — I think you could see it a little bit. You just have to be competitive, and that’s a good word to describe me,” Cook explained.
Jets Bring in Some Reinforcements on the Backend of Their Defense
The green and white announced that they made two practice squad elevations for this game. They brought up defensive backs Tre Brown & DB Nik Needham.
Both players will revert to the practice squad on Monday, December 8.
For this upcoming game, the Jets will need all hands on deck. Brownlee was a key piece of the secondary, and now they will have to figure out life without him. They successfully found a way last week in the win over the Atlanta Falcons. Now it’s time to prove that wasn’t a fluke.
Clark, Brown, and Needham all figure to receive reps on Sunday. Last week, the Jets utilized a secondary by committee with safeties dropping into the slot, nickel defenders sliding deep, and corners rotating around.
Other Injuries to Monitor Ahead of the Dolphins Rematch
On Saturday, the Jets downgraded linebacker Cam Jones to “out,” and starting safety Tony Adams was downgraded to “doubtful.”
