Jets Predicted to Pull off Blockbuster Trade With Giants for Young QB

If the New York Jets can’t land the No. 1 pick organically, this is the dream scenario.

ESPN’s Field Yates released his mock draft 2.0, and it featured a blockbuster trade.

New York Giants receive: a 2026 first rounder (No. 7 overall), a 2026 first rounder (No. 18 overall via the Indianapolis Colts), and a 2026 day two pick (one of their second rounders)

New York Jets receive: a 2026 first-round draft choice (No. 1 overall)

“The Giants drafted their quarterback of the future in Jaxson Dart and a building block pass rusher in Abdul Carter this year, making this a scenario where they would likely field offers to move down if they do end up with the No. 1 pick. The Jets, meanwhile, can make an aggressive move up for a QB; Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and now Brady Cook haven’t stabilized their quarterback situation. The Jets are equipped with more premium draft picks than any other team after their deadline dealings,” Yates explained.

With that No. 1 overall pick, Yates had the Jets moving up to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

“Mendoza has had a remarkable season at Indiana, showing off excellent accuracy and a powerful right arm to pair with much-improved pocket awareness and sack avoidance after two seasons at Cal. He leads the FBS with 33 passing touchdowns this season and just handled an extremely tough test against Ohio State, leading Indiana to its first Big Ten Championship since 1967. The Jets are currently 27th in QBR (40.5), needing a long-term answer for coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey to cement themselves within the organization,” Yates wrote.

Explaining Why This Would Be a Dream Scenario for the Jets

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets still have a 6% chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick on their own. However, for that to happen, the Jets would have to lose their last four remaining games and get some help.

Cimini says the Jets are projected to land the No. 4 overall pick based on ESPN’s analytics.

If the Jets didn’t have to give up any assets to land their franchise quarterback at the top of the draft, that would be the ideal scenario. However, there is a 94% chance that it doesn’t happen.

This projected trade from Yates would be the next best thing.

The No. 1 overall pick is worth 3,000 points on the NFL draft value chart.

Gang Green’s combination of picks No. 7 overall (1,500 points) and No. 18 overall (900 points), No. 39 overall (510 points), or No. 47 (430 points) would be just under that number of points.

In other words, it would be a fair trade.

Think About What the Jets Would Still Have Left…

Giving up multiple first-round picks and more can be scary in a trade, but consider this.

If the Jets actually pulled off this trade at that value, they would still have plenty of picks left over.

They would use the first-round pick on the quarterback in 2026 and still have a second-round pick left, either their own or the one they acquired from the Dallas Cowboys in 2026.

In the 2027 NFL draft, none of those assets were touched by this trade. So Gang Green would be armed with three first-round draft choices to build around said quarterback. Those first round picks include their own, the Indianapolis Colts, and whichever is the better pick from the Cowboys or Green Bay Packers.
