Jets Pushed to Cut 24-Year-Old After ‘Inexcusable’ Mistakes in Dolphins Loss

It might be time for the New York Jets to cut bait again.

Wide receiver and return specialist Isaiah Williams had two costly gaffes that were major contributors to the team’s 27-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Isaiah Williams not letting that just go out of bounds and then fumbling is insane…. Inexcusable,” NFL analyst Will Parkinson reacted.

Isaiah Williams it’s time to collect your walking papers my man this is embarrassing,” The Jet Press posted on X previously Twitter.

After the season opener, former Jets wide receiver and return man Xavier Gipson had a costly fumble on special teams that directly led to a touchdown. Days after the game, Coach Glenn cut Gipson. It might be time to do it again after Williams’ boneheaded mistakes.

Social Media Erupts After Williams’ Mistakes

No way you can continue to roll Isaiah Williams out there. Time to give [Jamaal Pritchett] an opportunity next week if Nene [Kene Nwangwu] isn’t back,” former NFL player Leger Douzable argued on social media.

“This was fair caught,” Big Cat posted incredulously.

“BRO. Isaiah Williams? It’s so simple. Standing at your own 8, you literally don’t back up to catch it. That’s it, that’s all man. That’s spring install at division III schools man. Unreal,” Jets content creator The Buffalo Jet Fan posted.

ISAIAH WILLIAMS FAIR CATCH ON THE 1.5 YARD LINE WHAT THE [EXPLETIVE] MY GUY,” Jets content creator NYJ Matt strongly reacted.

Williams Made Two Critical Mistakes During the Jets Loss to the Dolphins

The green and white played horrifically in the first half against Miami in Week 4. Despite that, somehow someway the team only trailed by one score heading into the second half.

The good news is that the Jets were set to receive the second-half kickoff.

Williams collected the kickoff return at his own six-yard line, although if he had let it go out of bounds, the Jets would have automatically had the ball at the 40-yard line. Instead, he saved it from going out of bounds, returned it 30 yards, and proceeded to fumble. Six plays later, the Dolphins scored a touchdown to go up 17-3.

In the fourth quarter, the Jets defense finally got a stop, a quick three-and-out no less, and the Dolphins were forced to punt. Miami punter Jake Bailey boots it 57 yards, and inexplicably, Williams calls for a fair catch instead of letting it bounce into the end zone for a touchback.

Aaron Glenn Breaks Silence on Williams’ Struggles

“You know, just understanding exactly where he is at. Listen, you are right there at the 10 [yard line], you know you can’t back up,” head coach Aaron Glenn said. “Those situations, we just have to be smarter. We have to be smarter, you can’t allow that to put us in the situation with the offense backed up because now it’s a field position game and we can’t allow that to happen to us,” head coach Aaron Glenn said.

Williams Speaks About Mistakes After the Game

“The fair catch, man, just thinking too much, man, trying to make a play. Last minute, I see [jersey] No. 22, forget where I am in the field, but just stuff that can’t happen. Something that we work on and I know, like it’s stuff that I know, just stuff I can’t do,” Williams explained.
