New York Jets fans immediately rallied on social media to urge the team to sign Fant.
“Absolutely,” one Jets fan said when asked by the “Badlands” social media account if the team should pursue the talented tight end.
“Undeniably yes this team shouldn’t be turning away players capable of *600 yard seasons,” another Jets fan said.
“Absolutely. Its scary with Ruckert as our TE2,” another fan added.

Insider Explains How Fant Became Available
Fant, 27, entered the league as the No. 20 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson explained that “Fant’s future with the Seahawks had been uncertain because of his outsized contract.”
“Fant’s release, which comes two days before veterans are due to report to training camp, saves the team $9 million in cash and $8.91 million in cap space. Seattle will take on $4.5 million in dead money,” Henderson added.
Seahawks insider Corbin Smith said the timing of Fant’s release was curious.
“I’ve been driving and just saw Noah Fant news. The timing is… not typical for Seahawks,” Smith said.
Smith speculated on social media that Fant was a potential “trade candidate,” and the timing of this news suggests that the team attempted to move him, but were unable to find a taker.
Fant Would Be a Fun Dart Throw for the Jets
The Jets have Mason Taylor, whom they selected with the No. 42 overall pick in the second round. However, the rest of the depth chart leaves more questions than answers.
Fant could provide a veteran presence in the room and an insurance policy. Typically, rookie tight ends struggle to produce early. If Taylor doesn’t step up, it’s unclear who would on the Jets’ depth chart.
Fant stands in at 6-foot-4 and tips the scales at 249 pounds. Coming out of the NFL combine, the former Iowa product ran a blazing 4.5 40-yard dash at his height and weight.
In the NFL, he has provided a nice floor, but hasn’t broken through his ceiling. Across his six years in the pros, Fant has appeared in 95 games and has made 83 starts. He has racked up 300 receptions for 3,305 receiving yards and has scored 15 receiving touchdowns.
There is clearly untapped potential with this player, and the Jets should be looking to add as many weapons to the offense as possible. No one is going to complain about having an overflowing amount of talent at the skill positions. However, someone could certainly complain about not having enough.
Fant would have a clear path to the TE2 job over competition like Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt. If Taylor has any issues, Fant is more than capable of holding down the fort as an early starter for the green and white.
