Jets ‘Reverse’ Controversial Week 17 Decision After Getting Bashed by Fans

Not much has gone right for the New York Jets in the 2025 campaign. The hope was that a new regime, led by first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, would help the team take a step forward, but instead, it’s been another season of misery for the Jets and their fans. With a 3-12 record heading into Week 17, New York is simply looking to get through its final two regular-season games in one piece.

Of course, misery knows no bounds when it comes to the Jets, and sure enough, the team has found itself in hot water once again ahead of its upcoming Week 17 contest. After reports emerged indicating that New York rescinded an invitation extended to a fan to participate in its $100,000 field goal challenge, the team was forced to change its decision after getting destroyed by fans on social media.

Jets Walk Back Controversial Fan Decision Ahead of Week 17

The Jets have experienced quite a bit of pain and suffering over the past few years, but it’s tough to say they have been in a worse spot during that stretch than the spot they are in now. And now, they are attempting to make it so that their fans also experience the misery they are dealing with, too, apparently.

During halftime at their home games at MetLife Stadium, the Jets give one fan a chance to kick a field goal and win $100,000. For Week 17, season ticketholder Ashley Castanio-Gervasi was initially selected to have the opportunity to kick the field goal during halftime of the team’s contest against the New England Patriots.

On Christmas, a report emerged saying that Castanio-Gervasi had her invitation to participate in this event revoked because she is a high school soccer coach, which may make hitting the field goal easier for her. Unsurprisingly, the Jets were hammered by fans on social media, especially since they initially approached Castanio-Gervasi about this event all the way back in September. After facing quite a bit of backlash, it appears New York has walked back this decision.

“I’m told the Jets have ‘reversed’ this matter, per league source,” NFL insider Josina Anderson reported on Friday morning.

Jets Looking to Play Spoiler vs. Patriots in Week 17

This sort of controversial incident is seemingly a trademark of the Jets’ consistent ineptitude. The good news is that it appears Castanio-Gervasi will get a shot to win $100,000 when all is said and done, but for a team that is constantly looking (and failing) to give its fans something to cheer about, this is another black mark on its record.

As for the game on the field, New York will be hoping to play spoiler against a high-powered New England squad in Week 17. The Pats are attempting to hold off the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East division, meaning they will be playing to win in this one, which will make things tough for the Jets. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
