Jets Add Talented Weapon to Practice Squad

Robinson, 25, is listed at 5-foot-8 and tips the scales at 191 pounds.

He entered the league as the No. 167 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Robinson was with the Jags through his rookie season and was cut on June 4. The Philadelphia Eagles claimed him off waivers and carried him through training camp and the preseason. He didn’t make the Eagles’ 53-man roster.

“The special teams contributor saw action in the Jaguars’ final six games of the 2024-25 season, returning two kickoffs. Robinson began his college career at Alabama before transferring to Texas, where he ranked eighth in school history in average yards per kickoff return (24.2),” Jets editorial contributor Susanna Weir wrote in a press release.

The Back-and-Forth Journey Continues for Rookie UDFA

Toafili seems destined to float on and off the Jets roster all season.

The talented Florida State rookie tried out for the Jets during rookie minicamp in May. He didn’t make the cut. However, just ahead of training camp, they added him to the 91-man roster.

In the preseason, Toafili showed some pop, totaling 79 rushing yards on 15 carries. Despite some nice plays, Toafili didn’t make the 53-man roster. He joined the practice squad ahead of the season on September 1, but has now been cut again.

He spent all five of his collegiate seasons with the Seminoles. During that stretch, he contributed as both a runner and a receiver.

Toafili finished with 1,895 rushing yards, averaged 5.6 yards per clip, and toted the rock 340 times. Through the air, he collected 92 receptions for 905 receiving yards and scored four receiving touchdowns.

He became just the “fifth player in FSU history to score both a receiving and rushing touchdown of at least 70 yards,” Weir wrote in the press release.

Could Be a Potential Warning to Xavier Gipson

One of the big losers from the Jets’ 34-32 Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers was wide receiver Xavier Gipson. He coughed up a costly fumble in the second half that Pittsburgh converted into a touchdown.

After the game, head coach Aaron Glenn emphatically said, “You will not be on the field with this team if you’re gonna cause us to lose games if you’re gonna cause issues like that.”

He didn’t mention Gipson by name, but he caused the only turnover of the game. It wasn’t hard to connect the dots.

Adding Robinson to the fold, someone with some return experience, could be a warning to Gipson that if he doesn’t clean up his act soon, he could be on thin ice.

The one thing to keep an eye out for this week is the health status of Kene Nwangwu, who hurt his hamstring against the Steelers. The Jets had no other choice but to keep Gipson out there because of a lack of options.
