The New York Jets have added some more competition to the kicking room.
NFL Draft Diamonds posted on social media that the Jets have signed former UFL placekicker Harrison Mevis following an impressive workout last week.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini confirmed the news on X previously Twitter.
Mevis earned the nickname “The Thiccer Kicker” because of his unique size, listed at 6 feet and weighing 242 pounds.
“Mevis has a monster leg and was one of the best college kickers in the country when he played at Missouri. [He] combines size with exceptional leg strength, making him a standout in the kicking game,” NFL Draft Diamonds wrote in a column.
“Mevis holds the Missouri record for points (415), field goals made (89), and 50+ yard field goals (12). He also holds the Southeastern Conference record with a 61-yard game-winning field goal against Kansas State in 2023,” NFL Draft Diamonds added.
Mevis Has a Clear Path to Stealing a Job in Jets Training Camp
The Jets have not announced a corresponding roster move at the time of this reported signing.
At the moment, the Jets have three placekickers on the roster: Anders Carlson, Caden Davis, and Mevis.
“With his big leg and the lack of competition in camp between Anders Carlson and Caden Davis (a rookie), don’t be surprised if Harrison ends up making his way onto the 53-man roster in New York. As long as he kicks consistently like he did in Birmingham, the sky’s the limit for what he’s capable of with the Jets,” UFL Insider James Larsen of the UFL Newsroom said.
The Jets are desperately searching for answers at the kicker position. They temporarily found it in 2022 as former Pro Bowler Greg Zuerlein came to New York. However, after a record-breaking season in 2023, Zuerlein followed it up with a career-worst campaign in 2024.
The Jets cut ties with Zuerlein this offseason.
Insider Provides Exclusive Details on Mevis Joining the Jets
I spoke with UFL Insider James Larsen following the news that the Jets had signed Mevis.
“[A] really strong kicker. Huge leg. 5-for-6 on kicks from 50+ yards, with his only miss from 63 yards out. Very accurate as well. Probably the most NFL-ready kicker in the UFL. Also, he was one of the best at the new kickoff format that the NFL also has now. Should be reliable,” Larsen told me.
Mevis went 20-for-21 this past season in the UFL for the Birmingham Stallions. Larsen called him “one of the UFL’s top kickers” this past season.
“Jets might have their kicker for the 2025-26 season,” Larsen posted on social media.
The UFL could be the new breeding ground for NFL kickers.
“Birmingham is no stranger to UFL to NFL signings from their specialist group. Two years ago, Brandon Aubrey signed with the Dallas Cowboys – and has since been one of the NFL’s top kickers. Last year, it was Jake Bates who made his way from the Michigan Panthers, to stardom in the NFL with the Detroit Lions,” Larsen revealed.
