The New York Jets will have a new quarterback under center in 2026.
Whether it’s a rookie they select in the draft, or another veteran they acquire, someone other than Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor will be the trigger man in New York.
But is the Jets’ offensive infrastructure good enough where a quarterback can come in and succeed right away?
Almost.
They have a solid young offensive line, one that continues to get better, bookended by two first-round tackles in Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou.
There’s a stable of running backs led by star Breece Hall, with Isaiah Davis and Braelon Allen serving as solid change-of-pace options.
But their one weakness is the wide receiver position.
Jets Named ‘Dream Landing Spot’ for Brandon Aiyuk
Garrett Wilson is a bona fide No. 1 receiving option; that much is clear.
But outside of him, the New York Jets are hoping one of their newly acquired wideouts, John Metchie and Adonai Mitchell, can show enough to be high-end No. 2 options as the 2025 season winds down.
But to make their offense as foolproof as possible for a new quarterback, they would be better off adding another weapon with their excess of resources.
Enter San Fransico 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox tabbed the Jets as a “dream landing spot” for the disgruntled 49ers receiver, since Aiyuk and San Francisco seem to be on the outs.
“With the team’s draft capital, there’s a very real chance that the Jets’ next quarterback is a highly-drafted rookie. Pairing Aiyuk with Wilson would give said quarterback two talented pass-catchers who would help make adapting to the NFL a whole lot easier,” wrote Knox.
“For Aiyuk New York could provide the chance to be part of a historic turnaround in arguably the league’s biggest market. The Jets aren’t good right now, but they have the cap and draft capital to get good in a hurry.”
A wide receiver room of Wilson and Aiyuk would certainly round out their receiving room.
Adding another capable receiving option rounds out the position group well and allows general manager Darren Mougey to use the Jets’ resources to round out weaker spots, such as the defense.
Will the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk Part Ways?
According to The Athletic reporters Dianna Russini and Michael Silver, the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk are headed towards a messy divorce.
After signing a four-year $120 million extension roughly 15 months ago, the 49ers voided his guaranteed money for 2026, citing “failure to fulfill his contractual obligations.”
Aiyuk does not plan on filing a grievance through the NFLPA.
“It’s now likely that the 27-year-old has played his last game with the franchise, according to numerous sources briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive situation,” reported Russini and Silver.
“Some in the organization are holding out hope that the relationship can be salvaged enough for him to return this season. However, multiple sources believe that a reconciliation is unlikely.”
With the relationship deteriorating, Aiyuk is set to become a free agent in 2026, clearing the way for the New York Jets to sign the former Arizona State standout outright.
In 69 career games, Aiyuk has racked up 4,305 yards receiving on 294 catches and hauled in 25 touchdowns.
He would be a welcome addition on any team’s receiving core.
