Jets Trade Pitch Delivers $110 Million Star WR From NFC Squad

The New York Jets need another wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson.

ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler openly asked in a column, “Would the Bears part with DJ Moore after drafting Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III in back-to-back drafts?”

A proposed hypothetical trade explores that possibility with the Jets being the direct beneficiary.

Chicago receives: a 2027 third-rounder

New York receives: wide receiver DJ Moore

Fowler speculated that a third-rounder could be parlayed into a trade for a veteran pass catcher. Moore, 28, has five years remaining on his $110 million contract.

The Jets don’t have a third-round pick in 2026 because of the Haason Reddick trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. That means the green and white would either have to give up a third in 2027 or give up a second rounder in 2026.

Moore Is the Right Kind of Splash to Make if You Are the Jets

Every NFL front office has an imaginary big shiny red button that they can press at any time. The key is knowing when to press it. Sometimes the best moves you can make is the one you don’t.

This new regime doesn’t scream splash move type, but if they were to pull the trigger, Moore would be the perfect kind of player to do it for.

The former Maryland product entered the league as the No. 24 overall pick in the first round in the 2018 NFL draft.

He spent the first five years of his career with the Carolina Panthers and was a very solid player. Across those 80 games, he made 73 starts. During that period, Moore racked up 364 receptions for 5,201 receiving yards and scored 21 touchdowns.

During the 2023 offseason, Moore was traded from the Panthers to the Bears in a blockbuster draft trade.

Moore took his game to another level in Chicago. During those two seasons, Moore had 194 catches for 2,330 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns.

Moore Already Has Chemistry With the Jets QB1

In Moore’s first season with Chicago in 2023, he set new career highs in receptions (96), receiving yards (1,364, and touchdowns (nine total).

Who was his quarterback? Justin Fields.

Who is the Jets’ QB1 in 2025? Justin Fields.

Moore is still young, only 28 years of age, and already has chemistry with the starting quarterback of the Jets. That would accelerate the process of getting Moore caught up with the offense and being able to be on the same page with Fields.

Moore is a really good player, and adding him to the Jets offense would be a net positive. What will make Moore even more impactful is the presence of Wilson on the other side. By having two star receivers, opposing defenses would have to make business decisions ahead of every play on who they wanted to focus their attention on.

Whoever was less bracketed or drew less attention on each play would get a favorable matchup that Fields could take advantage of. Plus, if the wideouts are cooking through the passing game, that should open up the barn doors for the running game to take full flower.

This is something the Jets should strongly consider if Moore becomes available.
