Joe Flacco Drops Bold 2-Word Comment on Browns After Week 1 Loss

The Cleveland Browns dropped their season opener, losing 17-16 to the Cincinnati Bengals at home in Week 1.

Cleveland had a chance to hit a go-ahead game-winning field goal, but Flacco threw an interception, which sealed the game. The interception hit off a Browns’ receiver and right into the hands of a Bengals’ defender.

Following the loss, Flacco says you can tell the Browns have an ‘inexperienced team’ in his post-game press conference.

“Yeah, it’s tough. It felt like we did a lot of good things, but we also did a lot of things that get you beat,” Flacco said. “I just felt like we kind of played like an inexperienced team a little bit today. We did so many good things; we were able to move the ball. But to ultimately come up short, it definitely hurts to feel like you could start the season 1-0 and not do that.”

It was a bold comment from Flacco, who called the Browns a young and inexperienced team. However, the two receivers who made the key drops, which turned into interceptions, were Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman, who are veteran receivers in the NFL.

Flacco finished the game going 31-for-45 for 290 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions in the Browns’ Week 1 loss.

Flacco Opens Up on Key Drops

Cleveland’s receivers had some key drops, which proved to be the difference in the game.

After the game, Flacco took the blame for the drops as he felt like he should have thrown the ball in better spots.

“I wish I had thrown the ball a little bit better. I wish I had thrown it on his chest as opposed of doing what I did, I think we are all looking at those plays and thinking about them,” Flacco said. “We’ll have to go home tonight and try to fall asleep with those things in our thoughts. It’s hard. When you lose football games, that’s what happens. You’re going to have plays that you look back on and think about.”

Ultimately, Flacco did play well in Week 1, and he gave the Browns a chance to pull off the upset win over the Bengals.

Browns Coach Expects Team to Learn From Week 1 Loss

Cleveland dropped to 0-1 in the season, losing to the Bengals in a game the Browns had a chance to win late.

Yet, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski says he’s proud of his team, but he knows the team can learn a lot from it.

“Very, very disappointing to come away with a loss in that game. Can’t be minus 2 (on turnovers) versus a good football team. That’s the story of this football game,” Stefanski said. “Tip balls, and we gotta play cleaner. There are a thousand things that we can do better from a coaching staff, from a player standpoint, but we have to do a better job securing that rock.

“We obviously missed a field goal, missed an extra point. Those are points, and in these types of games, you have to come away with (points),” Stefanski said. “So, it hurts when you feel like you’re doing some good things. Now having said that, you we have a position, where we have a division game next week, right back at it. So if this team understands that these hurt, but we’ll learn from it. We’ll watch the tape, recommit to those things and understand that we have to do a better job in a bunch of different areas. But really proud of a lot of the performance from these guys. Proud of effort from these guys. But man, it’s just frustrating not to come out with a win.”

The Browns go on the road to play the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2.
