Joe Gomez will be out ‘for quite a bit’ due to a hamstring injury picked up in Liverpool’s win at West Ham on Sunday, revealed Arne Slot.
The defender limped out of the win after just 37 minutes, replaced by Jarell Quansah, who played the rest of the match.
It was one blemish on an otherwise excellent day for the Reds, which saw Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota find the back of the net.
However, the news on Gomez after the match was bad, and the England international is set to miss a number of games to come.
‘We saw today again an injury for Joe Gomez. If a player says he wants to stop he has to be changed,’ Slot told Sky Sports.
‘We all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going to take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit.
‘These situations can happen in a season, so a long way to go but a very good first half year.’

It has indeed been an excellent half season from Liverpool, with Slot’s team sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with Nottingham Forest their surprise nearest challengers.
Gomez does join Slot’s other sidelined defenders in Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley, which is a headache going into an extremely busy January.
Both are expected to return next month, although Slot has not predicted exactly when he thinks they will be available again.

The Reds have eight games in January across the Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League, so Slot will be desperate to have all his defenders available again as quickly as possible.
That intense run of fixtures begins on 5 January at home to Manchester United in the Premier League.
