Jonathan Kuminga’s Agent Has Strong Words After Warriors Deal

The Golden State Warriors didn’t wait until the October 1 qualifying offer deadline to get clarity on Jonathan Kuminga. Instead, the 22-year-old forward agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract that includes flexibility for trade talks as soon as January.

Negotiations dragged in recent weeks over a team option, which Kuminga’s camp eventually accepted with the expectation it could be declined in 2026 to allow for a new deal. That compromise set the stage for Kuminga’s return — and his agent has now weighed in publicly.

Warriors Agent Speaks Out

Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, broke his silence on X, writing:

“JK is ready to go! Appreciate all the guys who helped over the last month! We Love the support from those that see the truth about JK, and love the hate even more. Trust me all the [receipts] are being kept! Let’s Hoop! #JustKnow”

Turner had already made waves earlier this month with radio interviews where he outlined his client’s demands, including a player option and an expanded role.

Warriors Rotation Questions

Even with Kuminga locked in, questions remain about his role in Steve Kerr’s rotation. Golden State added Al Horford this offseason to stabilize the frontcourt next to Draymond Green. That leaves Kuminga either starting at small forward alongside Jimmy Butler or coming off the bench as a sixth man.

If the Warriors are intent on shopping him before the deadline, it makes sense to feature him. Kuminga’s career high in minutes per game is 26.3, and keeping him near that mark would maximize his trade value.

The Shooting Concern

The biggest obstacle for Kuminga as a starter is his outside shot. Last season he connected on under 33% of his threes — the same issue Butler and Green bring to the floor. For a Warriors offense still built around Stephen Curry, spacing is non-negotiable.

Unless Kuminga shows improvement from deep, Kerr may have to keep him in a bench role, even if that means complicating trade calculus.

What’s Next for Kuminga and the Warriors

For now, Kuminga is back in Golden State with a new deal and a renewed spotlight. Turner’s comments suggest confidence, but the reality is this season doubles as both a proving ground and a showcase.

If Kuminga proves he can thrive in an expanded role, he could cement himself as part of the Warriors’ long-term core. If not, he may end up as one of the most intriguing names on the trade market by January.
