Jordan Love Showers the Packers Receiving Core with Praise

Entering his third year as a starter, the Green Bay Packers have their guy in Jordan Love. Even though he wasn’t completely healthy for the 2024 season, he’s led the team to two straight playoff appearances.

Knowing how rare it is for this team to draft a wide receiver in the first round, that just shows how special Matthew Golden is. He’s the newest weapon for Love, who had nothing but great things to say about this Packers receiving core.

Jordan Love Highlights Each Packers Receiver

Love had a chance to speak about the Packers wide receivers as part of NFL’s “Back Together Weekend“. With the Hall of Fame game this week, Green Bay is one of many teams anticipating their first preseason game on Saturday, August 9.

Golden is the newest addition to a Packers roster that has talent such as Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney. Jacobs was a difference maker on offense last season, and had no issue replacing the likes of Aaron Jones’ production. Even though this young receiving core isn’t perfect, Love has all of the confidence in the world entering the 2025 season.

Romeo Doubs was the first topic of discussion, “We got Rome who’s got some of the best hands I’ve ever seen. He’s a sure-handed receiver that you can always count on when you throw it up he’s going to come down with it,” Love said. Last year, Doubs finished with a career high 13.1 yards per reception.

Love spoke about Dontayvion Wicks, “You’ve got Wicks who’s a basketball player out there. He’s got so much wiggle and separation off the line to be able to mix DBs and be able to create that separation and create that room.”

Recently, Wicks was in the spotlight as Nate Hobbs took him out in training camp. The 24-year-old had a career high five touchdowns last season.

“You’ve got J-Reed who’s been killing it in the middle. He’s kind of our gadget guy where you can put him on end-arounds and things like that. He can do his thing in the slot,” Love added. Jayden Reed has emerged as the Packers WR1 as his 55 receptions and 857 receiving yards last season were team highs.

Slotting the Rookie into the Mix

Green Bay’s rookie receiver, Golden, is listed as WR2 only behind Reed. ESPN’s depth chart has him ahead of Doubs, who Love has a clear soft spot for. Regardless, he’ll have to prove himself as training camp is just beginning.

Love commented, “The fun part will be adding MG in there and seeing what he does well. I’ve seen a lot of good things from him so far and I think for him it’s just continuing to understand the offense and understand exactly what to do.”

“How to run the routes, but when he’s not thinking and playing very fast, he makes some really good plays out there. I’m just excited to see how much he builds,” he added.

Even if Golden doesn’t put everything together immediately, Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave cannot be forgotten about. The tight ends each received compliments from Love who is destined to lead the Packers to their next Super Bowl.
