Josh Giddey Makes Final Call on Future With Bulls

It’s official, the Chicago Bulls’ contractual standoff with Josh Giddey is over. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Giddey has signed a four-year $100 million deal to stay with the Bulls.

“Just in: Restricted free agent Josh Giddey has reached an agreement on a four-year, $100 million deal to re-sign with the Chicago Bulls, agent Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports Management tells ESPN,” Charania posted on X.

Giddey came into the offseason as a restricted free agent. He was reportedly seeking a deal in the region of $30 million per year. And, while he hasn’t reached his goal, his new contract represents a significant pay increase.

In his first year with the Bulls, Giddey put up impressive counting stats. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game, all of which were career highs for the impressive guard.

Chicago can now continue pushing forward with its rebuild. After all, Giddey has cemented himself as a cornerstone talent for the franchise. The Bulls had to secure his immediate future before pushing ahead with their preparations for the upcoming season.

Giddey’s New Deal With Bulls Is Fully Guaranteed

In what will be seen as a win for the Bulls, Giddey’s new deal doesn’t have a player option in the final year. Instead, Chicago has inked him to a straight-up four-year contract. That means there is no team option in the agreement, either.

“The deal is fully guaranteed and contains no player or team options,” Charania reported. “The Bulls announced the contract on Tuesday but did not disclose terms. Giddey, 22, cements himself as the Bulls’ cornerstone at starting point guard, following the franchise landing him via trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for Alex Caruso during the 2024 offseason.”

By avoiding a player option, the Bulls now have four full seasons to build a contending roster around Giddey. However, their immediate attention must turn toward Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu, as both guards are entering the final year of their current deals.

It’s unlikely the Bulls will keep both guards on the roster, especially after Giddey re-signed and the franchise retained Tre Jones in free agency.

Dosunmu Reportedly Drawing Interest

According to a July 21 report from Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Bulls should have no problem finding a willing trade partner for Dosunmu.

“Ayo Dosunmu is a key name to keep an eye on, not just for the Warriors, who have been interested in him previously, but other teams around the league as well,” Siegel reported. “There has been plenty of interest in Dosunmu as he enters the final year of his contract.”

Dosunmu played in 46 games this past season. He averaged 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists on 49.2% shooting from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range. If the Bulls decide to shop him around the league, there should be no shortage in suitors.

Unfortunately for Chicago, with Giddey, White, Dosunmu and Jones, they have some tough choices to make. However, with their star ball-handler secured for the next four years, every decision that comes in the next 12 months will likely be slightly easier. After all, Billy Donovan’s team is still on track and working from a clear blueprint.
