New England Patriots legends Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman only ever played for one quarterback (excluding six games in 2020), Thomas Edward Patrick Brady. Catching passes from the GOAT left these two future Patriots Hall of Famers spoiled. On their podcast the duo discussed who else they could see themselves catching passes from, had they not been so lucky.
“Josh Allen, I love his game. It reminds me of myself at the quarterback position. That was a no-brainer for me. That was the first quarterback that popped up in my head,” said Gronkowski on the Dudes on Dudes podcast.
Josh Allen and Gronk would form one of the most exciting highlight reel offenses of all time. Edelman, while he agreed that Allen would be a good time, had a few different AFC signal callers in mind.
“I would love Josh Allen, but I would love to have Burrow,” said Edelman. “I mean, you would love to have Mahomes. Our offense is a little different. There’s a little more drop-back pass. I don’t know, I mean, Mahomes is pretty good, too, but I think Burrow. I don’t want someone running as much as Mahomes on those third downs. I want them throwing because I want those third downs.”
Edelman Set To Be Inducted Into Patriots Hall of Fame This September
The team announced earlier this month that Julian Edelman would be joining Bill Parcels as the latest inductees into the Patriots of Fame.
“Edelman spent his entire 12-year NFL career with the Patriots after being selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Kent State,” the release read. “He ranks second in team history with 620 receptions, fourth with 6,822 receiving yards, and ninth with 36 receiving touchdowns. A versatile playmaker… (Edelman) totaled 9,869 all-purpose yards, the fourth-most in team history.”
The induction will take place Saturday, September 20th one day before the team hosts Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers in New England’s second home game of the season.
Rob Gronkowski Not Yet Eligible For HOF
Gronk reset his eligibility when he came out of retirement in 2020 to join Tom in Tampa Bay and hoist one more Lombardi Trophy.
Had Gronkowski stayed retired, he would have been eligible to earn his red jacket in 2023. Now his official retirement date is 2022, meaning he will be eligible to make the Hall next offseason.
This would mean that in three straight years the Patriots class would be: Tom Brady (2024), Julian Edelman (2025), Rob Gronkowski (2026).
The three players that, more than anyone else, defined the Patriots dynasty of the 2010’s enshrined next to one another. A poetic way to say goodbye to that era of New England Patriots football.
