It’s a Christmas miracle.
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields revealed an interesting observation about teammate Breece Hall during his media availability.
“Yeah, Breece is a ballplayer for sure. Of course, everybody knows he can run, but what kind of surprised me is his natural hands. When I first started throwing with him [I noticed] he has natural hands like a receiver. He is really an all-around back, so definitely glad to have him on my team,” Fields said.
BLESSED BE HE!
Infamously former #Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett said he first realized Breece Hall could catch the football proficiently in Week 8 of the 2023 season.
Thankfully Justin Fields has figured that out 3 months before the season: 🤣

Infamously, former Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett went viral on social media for sharing a Hall-related observation that made you scratch your head.
“I don’t think I was ready for him to be as productive as he was in the pass game. I think that is something that has added a whole dimension to things that we can do. Lining him up at wide receiver [and] catching the ball from the backfield,” Hackett said on January 4, 2024.
A media member then asked Hackett when he realized Hall brought this receiving element to the table.
“The one that jumps out to me big time … that check-down he caught versus the [New York] Giants was unbelievable. I mean it really stood out that it wasn’t just check-downs that you wanted to get to, but you wanted to really try to game plan to get him the ball from the backfield,” Hackett added.
#Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett provided an absolutely bizarre answer when asked to describe Breece Hall’s season:

The example Hackett brought up was from Week 8. The Jets-Giants game took place on Sunday, October 29, 2023. At least Fields figured that out three months before the season started, as opposed to two months into it.
That’s what we call progress.
How Is That Even Possible?
After the Jets fired or “mutually parted ways” with Mike LaFleur, they interviewed 20 candidates for the offensive coordinator position in 2023. Following a very thorough search, the Jets landed on Hackett as the answer to their OC question.
A coach admitting he didn’t realize that one of his key offensive players could catch the ball proficiently halfway through a season has to be a felony.
Consider this.
Hall finished with 76 receptions during the 2023 season. That is the second-most catches a Jets running back or fullback has had in a single season in team history.
That is impressive, but imagine how much more impressive that season could have been had Hackett realized sooner that Hall could contribute in the passing game.
The good news is that Fields has cracked the Da Vinci Code months before the season. That should give Hall a chance to make some noise through the air in 2025.
Jets West Is Making a Return This Offseason
Fields revealed that during the 40+ day break between mandatory minicamp and training camp, he is going to organize a workout with his teammates.
“For sure, yep, gonna try and get some receivers and tight ends together and work out with them,” Fields told the media on Wednesday, June 11.

Back during the Mark Sanchez Jets era, he organized workouts with his teammates during the break before training camp.
“Sanchez hosted 13 teammates Tuesday at his former high school, Day 2 of a weeklong camp — a mini-minicamp, if you will. Each day includes a morning workout, followed by a film session, an hour or so on the field, and an evening social event,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini explained in a column posted back in 2011.
“The Jets quarterback is like a cruise director, coordinating everything from practice scripts to the catered lunches. Sanchez hatched Jets West last summer, mostly as a way to sharpen his skills after missing most of the offseason due to knee surgery. This time, it’s about the entire offense, trying to stay in shape and build chemistry while banned from the team facilities,” Cimini added.
