The game between No. 7 Oregon Ducks and the No. 22 USC Trojans is looking to be a eye-catching spectacle this weekend in college football. Potentially not just for the play on the field, but the names it is attracting off it as well.
It was just announced that for ESPN’s College Gameday show that Marcus Mariota would be a special guest picker representing the Ducks before the game. He will also be inducted into the Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame. However, what with several NFL West Coast teams on the bye, fans are wondering if there could be even more names added to the festivities: including current Chargers QB Justin Herbert and his pop star girlfriend, Madison Beer.
Star Power Off the Field Fuels Eugene Buzz
Several reports have claimed that both Herbert and Beer were spotted at a local Trader Joe’s in the Eugene area as early as Tuesday. This proved to be a somewhat unusual sighting as Herbert is known to keep to himself and not interact with the media all that often. However, ever since Herbert and Beer became an item, the paparazzi have followed them everywhere.
This trip to Eugene most likely was spoiled for several Beer fans as she has an avid following on Instagram and posted a story of a flight over California, suggesting the couple’s potentially trip to Oregon with their destination likely Eugene. Justin Herbert on the other hand, was last seen at Eugene supporting his brother, Patrick Herbert, for the Ducks Pro Day. To further add to the rumors, Beer was spotted wearing an Oregon Ducks sweatshirt in Los Angeles as well. While not in the Eugene area, it further fuels the speculation of a potential Eugene surprise.
Speculation Builds Around Potential College Gameday Cameos
Considering all the social media sightings, it would not be too far-fetched to think that this could be setting up a potential College Gameday appearance. After all, behind Mariota, Herbert may be one of the most appreciated quarterbacks to ever come out of the program. Couple with his NFL success and his new romance, it would be a huge deal on the Ducks’ campus. Furthermore, he has never been on the show, so there’s not time like the present, especially for such a massive game with CFP implications.
All these rumors have come after a rough day at the office last week for Justin Herbert. In one of his worst games as a pro, he completed only 10 of 16 passes for 81 in a stunning 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. To top it all off, he suffered a purported concussion that forced him to exit the game in the fourth quarter. While the bye week should come at the perfect time for Herbert, it comes amidst a very uncertain one for his team. This potential College Gameday opportunity could be enough to take his mind off of the game for a little while and celebrate the big game with a fellow Oregon legend…and his new celebrity beau.
