T
he Los Angeles Chargers are off and running for the 2025 season. Taking part in the annual Hall of Fame Game on July 31, the Chargers quest for glory has officially begun, with the franchise eager to build off of an 11-6 campaign from 2024. But if the Chargers want to have a successful season, good play from the superstars is imperative. And no superstar is more important for the Chargers this season than quarterback, Justin Herbert.
And with the season nearing, the NFL has started to release its top 100 players for the season. Each and every year, the league gathers its list of the best players and releases them in chunks. And now, we finally know where Herbert stands– with the sixth year pro coming in ranked at No. 56.
Herbert’s Ranking
While Herbert did not win any accolades last season, 2024 could be considered the best statistical season of his career. Completing 65.9% of his passes for 3,870 yards, 23 touchdowns and a career low of three interceptions, Herbert adjusted to head coach Jim Harbaugh’s offense very quickly continued to live up to the potential that comes with being the No. 6 overall pick. Herbert kept growing as a player and has instilled confidence within the organization that he is the guy who can lead them to the promised land.
“There’s nobody in this entire organization who gives more blood, sweat and tears and contributes more, produces more for the organization than Justin Herbert,” Harbaugh said of Herbert last season.
Herbert is the third Chargers player to earn a spot in the top 100 list. It also marks the fifth consecutive year that Herbert himself was ranked.
Herbert’s Outlook for This Season
2024 was a special season for Herbert in many ways. Not only was his touchdown to interception ratio of 7.67 the eighth best all-time for a quarterback who threw at least 15 touchdowns in a season, but his 91.2 grade on PFF was also the best of his career. Finishing top 10 in passing yards, quarterback rating and pass EPA, Herbert is excited to build off of his success.
“I think we’ve made great strides this offseason. I would say that we’ve gotten a lot better,” Herbert said in June. “We’re continuing to put in this offense and master and do everything we can to fully understand it. I think from that standpoint, we’re further ahead than where we were last year. There’s a lot of work to do and I think guys have done a great job this offseason of showing up mentally prepared and being focused day in and day out.”
For only the second time in his career, Herbert enters a season in the same offensive scheme– having dealt with multiple coaching changes throughout his career. But with a full offseason this time around getting to grasp Harbaugh’s scheme, Herbert is confident that 2025 will be his best year yet.
