The Sean McVay era of Los Angeles Rams football has not been kind to the Seattle Seahawks.
Even after Seattle’s thrilling win over LA on ‘Thursday Night Football’, McVay owns an 11-7 career record over the Seahawks.
There is no doubt that McVay is one of, if not the best, coach in the NFL. He routinely guides the Rams to victories, and his teams are almost never unprepared for a game. That type of high-level coaching showed up on Thursday despite the loss.
Since Seattle has been one of McVay’s biggest victims, it should come as no surprise that it has failed to reach its offensive peak against Los Angeles.
Lost in the chaos of that wild TNF game was an impressive milestone that the Seahawks checked off in the win.
Kenneth Walker’s Touchdown Run Was Longest Seahawks Offensive Play Against McVay Rams
You watch enough football, and you are bound to see something new.
In the nine seasons McVay has been head coach of the Rams, the Seahawks never had an offensive play go for 55 yards or more.
Until Thursday night in Seattle.
This is kind of a sad statistic for the Seahawks considering all the times they have played LA, but better late than never.
It is also somewhat surprising that DK Metcalf or Tyler Lockett did not able to have a play longer than that.
Regardless, Seattle needed every bit of Walker’s touchdown run.
Consider where the Seahawks were at that specific moment in the game at the start of the third quarter. The Rams entered halftime with a 13-7 lead, and it could have been an even bigger margin if LA did not have to settle for some field goals.
Seattle’s typically strong run defense was getting gashed by the Rams’ offensive line, and Matt Stafford was absolutely locked in.
It was clear that the Seahawks weren’t just going to be able to hold down LA for the entirety of the game, so every score would be big as the game progressed.
When the blocks opened space for Walker and he took it to the house with 12:57 left in the third quarter, Seattle took a 14-13 lead. In doing so, it gave itself some wiggle room that later kept the game a two-score margin after two Sam Darnold interceptions.
Kenneth Walker Had a Great Game Against the Rams
With respect to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kenneth Walker had the best game of any Seahawks offensive player on Thursday.
His 55-yard touchdown showed how dynamic he can be with clean blocking clearing the way.
That was hardly his only good play from that game. Kenneth Walker finished the game with 11 rushes for 100 yards and three catches for 64 yards.
His 46-yard screen pass reception helped Seattle take an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Walker’s impact had been very inconsistent this season. He had 13 carries for 102 yards combined in this last three games.
Heck, the last time he scored a touchdown was the last time the Seahawks faced the Rams in Week 11!
None of that mattered on Thursday, though. Walker balled out in the Seahawks biggest game of the season, and he was a huge reason why they won the game.
