Key Chiefs Offensive Playmaker Ruled Out for Broncos Matchup

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without their top running back on Sunday.

As CBS Sports noted, Adam Schefter reported just a few minutes ago, the team has officially ruled out Isiah Pacheco for the Week 11 matchup against the Denver Broncos. 

His injury removes one of Kansas City’s most important offensive playmakers from a crucial AFC West showdown.

Head coach Andy Reid hinted at this outcome earlier in the week when he told reporters, “The only person who didn’t practice today was Pacheco.”

After missing every session leading up to the game due to an MCL sprain, the Chiefs have now made it official.

Pacheco, who hasn’t played since Week 8, has been Kansas City’s most consistent back. 

So far this season, he has 329 yards on 78 carries and playing more than 56% of offensive snaps when healthy.

His absence delivers a significant blow to a Chiefs offense that has been extremely one-dimensional as of late. 

How Pacheco’s Absence Affects for Broncos Defense

With Pacheco sidelined, Kansas City will once again turn to veteran Kareem Hunt, rookie Brashard Smith and maybe even a little Clyde Edwards-Helaire. 

When Pacheco missed Week 9, Hunt led the committee with 11 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown. 

Smith and Edwards-Helaire combined for just 12 total yards in supporting roles. 

With Pacheco out, the Broncos can put their sole focus into stopping the Chiefs high-powered passing attack. 

The Broncos have allowed an average of 11 points over their last two games. 

And now, Pacheco’s absence gives Vance Joseph more freedom to disguise pressures, drop extra defenders into coverage, and dare the Chiefs to run with a depleted backfield. 

Hunt remains dangerous, but he doesn’t bring the same explosive acceleration or YAC ability that Pacheco consistently delivered.

Kansas City’s offense will have to adjust quickly on Sunday. 

For a Broncos defense playing its best football of the season, the timing couldn’t be better.

A Crucial AFC West Clash With Major Divisional Stakes

This matchup carries enormous weight for both teams in an AFC West race that remains extremely competitive.  

Denver sits atop the AFC West at 8-2, but the gap between these rivals remains much closer than the standings suggest, especially given the Chiefs’ decade-long dominance of the division. 

With Isiah Pacheco sidelined and Kansas City searching for answers on offense, Sunday presents Denver with a massive opportunity to strengthen its hold on first place. 

A win could deliver a significant blow to the Chiefs hopes of climbing back into contention.

After nine straight AFC West titles for Kansas City, this is the Broncos’ best chance in years to flip the script and pull away in the divisional race. 

In recent weeks, many around the league have questioned whether the 8-2 Broncos are “frauds.” 

A win over the Chiefs on Sunday would go a long way toward flipping that narrative.
