Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s manager recently slammed Conor McGregor for his antics and behavior after achieving fame. There’s no love lost between them, even years after his client’s bout with McGregor.
Nurmagomedov and McGregor fought in the main event of UFC 229. The buildup to the fight was intense, starting with the infamous dolly incident. It then became personal, with The Notorious bringing up The Eagle’s faith during the pre-fight press conference.
Additionally, McGregor also targeted Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, making references to his past before joining the MMA industry.
Abdelaziz expressed his disdain for McGregor during his appearance on Pound 4 Pound. Although he credited McGregor for the biggest fight in UFC history, Abdelaziz believes fame revealed the Irishman’s true character.
“[McGregor’s] just a hooligan. He doesn’t give a crap about nothing but himself or his ego. They said money and fame change people, I disagree. I think money and fame show who you really are,” Abdelaziz said during his appearance on Pound 4 Pound. “Maybe this McGregor guy at the beginning was a good guy, but when you really give him this power, this money, it shows who he is. He’s a piece of [expletive]…It’s fact.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor Still Highest-Grossing UFC Event
Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor at UFC 229 remains the highest-grossing event in UFC history. The event took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 6, 2018.
Nurmagomedov made a statement through his performance, talking to McGregor while landing powerful ground strikes. The Notorious stuffed a few of The Eagle’s takedowns and landed clean shots, but it wasn’t enough.
Nurmagomedov, known more for his wrestling, dropped McGregor with a right hand before swarming him and taking him down. After submitting The Notorious in the 4th round, The Eagle immediately jumped the fence and attacked the Irishman’s team.
A brawl then ensued, leading to a chaotic situation, which saw Daniel Cormier enter the octagon to calm Nurmagomedov down. Dana White refused to wrap the lightweight title around The Eagle’s waist for fear of the potential crowd response.
Despite the drama surrounding the event and fight itself, the UFC had cause for celebration. UFC 229’s gate was over $17.1 million and generated 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, making it the promotion’s most profitable event.
Ali Abdelaziz Reveals Details of Nurmagomedov and McGregor Brawl
Abdelaziz also revealed more details about the infamous brawl between Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s teams at UFC 229. Both teams got involved before police and security de-escalated the situation.
During his appearance on Pound 4 Pound, Abdelaziz admitted that he could feel that something was going to happen. He recalled White convincing him to stay out of it and not getting involved, warning him about strict consequences.
“Dana [White] grabbed me…He’s like, ‘Listen, if you do anything, they will suspend you, and they’re going to suspend every fighter. Help me calm this thing down,” Abdelaziz recalled, while speaking to Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo. “We are men, we are human beings. And sometimes, we have to protect our values, we have to protect our stand…Your friends are my friend, your enemy is my enemy.”
