The Georgia Bulldogs have a huge heavyweight matchup this Saturday against the Texas Longhorns. On Tuesday, the Florida Gators’ ex-head coach, Billy Napier, was seen at Georgia’s practice. Head coach Kirby Smart knows Napier quite well, as the two SEC coaches were assistants at Alabama under Nick Saban. Napier was formerly the head coach of Louisiana-Lafayette before moving to the SEC.
Billy Napier knows Georgia’s next opponent quite well, as the Gators defeated the Longhorns a few weeks ago. As the Bulldogs prepare for the Longhorns, it makes sense that Kirby Smart may want to get the insight from Napier.

Kirby Smart Talks Football Relationships
In a recent DawgNation.com article, it was revealed what Kirby Smart said about coach Napier:
âI mean, people donât understand relationships in coaches,â Smart said. âCoaches have a brotherhood and a fraternity together, and his dad was good friends with my dad. His dad was really good friends with Coach Bobo, and we all grew up in the state of Georgia with our fathers coaching high school football. They were well-respected people. Heâs been a friend for a long time, so he dropped by, yeah, but that was really it.â
The big bug-a-boo for Billy Napier was beating Georgia. In the premier SEC rivalry, Kirby Smart was 3-0 against Billy Napier.

Florida has played just one game this season without Billy Napier, and it was against Georgia. The university decided to fire him about a week before the matchup.
In other quotes by head coach Smart, he noted that he really respects the Longhorns’ Steve Sarkisian. ‘Friendships’ are strong across the SEC at the moment, but it continues to be the toughest conference in college football.

So, What Does Billy Napier Being at Georgia’s Practice Mean?
Billy Napier could be helping the Georgia defense by giving them some insight into how Texas likes to run its offense. Quarterback Arch Manning is still working out the kinks in his game, and it was even recently reported that he’s reached out to Alabama QB Ty Simpson for advice.
However, it is important to point out that the Bulldogs have no problem beating Sarkisian and the Longhorns. In 2024, Georgia beat Texas twice, and the second time was in the SEC title game.
So, while the rumors suggest that Napier could be helping out the Bulldogs in their matchup against Texas, it may also just be a friendly check-in between Kirby Smart and Billy Napier. Who knows, maybe Napier will join Kirby on a Georgia coaching staff that features a lot of prominent names in college football.Â
