The New York Knicks have been one of the healthier teams in the NBA despite most of their stars missing at least one game. However, Karl-Anthony Towns was the latest star player to hit the injury report.
Towns missed the Knicks’ recent game against the Orlando Magic with calf tightness. But now, the center will play for the team’s NBA Cup quarterfinal matchup against the Toronto Raptors.
“Karl Anthony Towns is warming up with intention of playing tonight in the NBA Cup quarterfinals,” Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported.
That report was then followed by James L. Edwards of The Athletic confirming that Towns will take the floor against the Raptors.
In 22 games, Towns is averaging 22.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game on 46.7% shooting. He got some criticism after a shaky start to the year, but has since become a double-double monster for the Knicks as they sit second in the East at 16-7.
Karl-Anthony Towns Injury Update
Towns went through practice and shootaround early on the day of the game. After being listed as ‘iffy’ hours before tipoff, he is now expected to play after missing just one contest. The Magic game was the only one of the year Towns has sat out, as it’s now just Mikal Bridges who has yet to miss a game for New York so far.
“Towns missed Sunday’s game against the Magic due to left calf tightness. He was initially listed as questionable for Tuesday’s NBA Cup contest, but it appears the veteran big man will be available to play,” CBS Sports added to the report.
Though Towns was very healthy in the first few seasons of his career, that hasn’t been the case over the past couple of years. He suited up in 72 games for New York last season, but with his play style, he is always liable for an unseen injury at any given point.
He’s been consistent over the past few weeks for the Knicks so far this season, and with new head coach Mike Brown, he has found a groove with franchise star Jalen Brunson.
Miles McBride Injury Update
Towns’ return is a good sign for the Knicks; however, he isn’t the only player on the injury report. Miles McBride recently suffered an ankle injury, and could be in danger of being out for a few weeks.
“Miles McBride is undergoing an MRI today on his ankle, according to Mike Brown. He left the practice facility today in a walking boot,” Bondy wrote on X.
Right before reporting the Towns news, the insider went on to say that the testing didn’t paint a positive picture for the Knicks’ backup guard.
“Miles McBride is undergoing further tests on his injured ankle, according to Mike Brown,” Bondy reported. “I heard McBride suffered a high ankle sprain.”
Pacome Dadiet and Landry Shamet are the two other players on the injury report. As of now, both of them, along with McBride, are expected to return in mid-December, but those return dates could easily be pushed back as time goes on.
