Despite the trade rumors surrounding him this offseason, Miles McBride wants to play for the New York Knicks for the rest of his career. McBride has fallen in love with the city and would love to be a Knick for life.
Speaking to Steve Popper of Newsday, the man who goes by “Deuce” opened up about the rumblings about his future in New York. He doesn’t care about the rumors and only wants to help the Knicks earn success this season.
“I mean, I love being here. I want to be a Knick for life. I can’t control anything. So just going to come to work until they tell me otherwise. … When the fan base is behind you through the ups and downs, no matter what, it’s great to play in MSG. It’s the Mecca of basketball. So being a Knick for these last couple of years has been amazing and I love the city. I love the city. I love the fans. Just being able to embrace the culture. I feel like it’s a hustle culture and I’m a hustle guy. So it’s perfect,” McBride said.
The Knicks are looking to trade one of their players to create space to sign two veteran guards in Landry Shamet and Malcolm Brogdon. McBride’s name has come up several times, but he’s unlikely to get traded because of what he brings to the team as a backup guard.
Miles McBride Important to the Knicks
According to James L. Edwards III, the potential candidates to get traded by the New York Knicks to create cap space for two veterans are Miles McBride, Pacome Dadiet, Tyler Kolek and Ariel Hukporti. Out of the four players mentioned, McBride is the most important part of the Knicks’ bench depth.
“I don’t think New York will move McBride. I’m just making the rounds on the bench players and looking at the likelihood of a trade. Not including Mitchell Robinson or Josh Hart, whoever ends up being the starter between those two, McBride is New York’s best bench player. His numbers dipped a bit last season, but he dealt with a few injuries. McBride has the best combination of modern offense and defense in one player on the Knicks’ bench,” Edwards wrote.
McBride averaged 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game last season. His shooting went down from 45.2% in the 2023-24 season to just 40.6% last season. Nevertheless, he brings too much to the table to give him up to add Landry Shamet and Malcolm Brogdon.
Miles McBride Flourished in Knicks’ First Preseason Game
The New York Knicks played their first two preseason games in Abu Dhabi against the Philadelphia 76ers. Miles McBride had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists in the Knicks’ 99-84 win on October 2 at the Etihad Arena.
Speaking to reporters after the game, McBride was just happy to contribute to the team and improve his conditioning ahead of the start of the season.
“It’s the preseason, so we’re just trying to get one percent better every day. I just wanted to come in today and make my presence felt out there, just looking to impact winning in any way that I can,” McBride said.
However, the 25-year-old guard wasn’t impressive in their next game. He only had two points, three rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes, but the Knicks did earn a 111-104 victory.
