Knicks’ Mikal Bridges Delivers Verdict On Mike Brown Following Latest Win

It may have taken overtime, but the New York Knicks are now 3-0 in the preseason. Mike Brown’s team overcame the Minnesota Timberwolves 100-95 on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Since arriving in New York, Brown has been coaching his team hard. Not only is he preparing the roster for a potential championship push, but he’s also ushering in a new style of offense. Therefore, he’s having to hold every member of the rotation accountable.

When speaking to the media following the Knicks’ latest win, Mikal Bridges praised Brown and the accountability he’s bringing to the table.

“It’s been great, man, and I love just how he pushes us,” Bridges said. “Accountability, you can make some good plays, and a couple of plays, you feel like you’re not doing the right thing, he’s gonna let you know. And, I mean, why wouldn’t you want that? Maybe in a moment, some guys might be a little upset about it, but I mean, you’re gonna get to, man. You ain’t gonna be no Mr. Nice Guy. You gotta hold people accountable, and he doesn’t do it in a disrespectful way. He just wants greatness out of everybody, and just being accountable is great.”

Brown has taken over the Knicks’ hot seat on the back of the franchise, making a run to the Eastern Conference Finals. He will understand the importance of helping the roster go at least one step further this season, and will undoubtedly believe that his new offensive style will help the team get there.

Jalen Brunson Is Adapting To Knicks’ New Offense

Against the Timberwolves, Jalen Brunson had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. He shot 4-of-14 from the field and 1-of-6 from deep. It’s preseason, so Brunson is likely still working his way into game shape. However, he’s also having to make the biggest adjustment within Brown’s system, as he goes from a ball-dominant role in the half-court to a more free-flowing offense that puts emphasis on him with and without the rock.

When speaking to the media after the game, Brunson discussed how he’s still adjusting to the new system but is continuing to trust that process.

“What we’re working on right now is a just like the basis of our offense and everything,” Brunson said. “It’s gonna take time. It’s not always going to be perfect. But it’s all about how we continue to trust it and continue to learn it. When things aren’t going well, are we gonna revert to who we were in the past? Or are we gonna continue to get better with everything that’s new to us? So, I continue to trust it.”

Brunson will undoubtedly figure out how to thrive in Brown’s system. However, it may take a little while until we see him operating at his best.

Knicks’ New Offense Will Unlock The Roster

The crux of Brown’s offensive idea is that it should unlock the vast array of offensive talent within the Knicks’ ranks. New York will play faster, make quicker decisions, and move the ball until they find a high-quality shot. That approach should make them far more unpredictable, especially in the half-court, where Brunson always found himself with the rock last season.

New York is arguably the favorite to come out of the East this season. They have the offensive and defensive depth to sustain a deep push into the playoffs. And, by adopting this new approach, they could become one of the best two-way teams in the NBA, and if that happens, then a championship may not be far away.
