49ers quarterback Brock Purdy isnât known for his legs, but he used them to his advantage to deliver a crucial play in San Franciscoâs 37-24 win over the Titans.
In addition to throwing for 295 yards and three touchdowns on 23-of-30 passing, Purdy ran for 44 yards on seven carries. One of those runs went for a career-high 26 yards and was capped with an awkward pump fake.
âIâm cool with him going,â head coach Kyle Shanahan said postgame about Purdyâs scramble. âI mean, youâre protected right there. You get as much as you can, and he looked like he did a basketball pump fake move or something like that. I donât see it until the last second. Iâm looking downfield and trying to see where the ball should go, and then I look back, and heâs running down the sidelines.â
Purdy’s Run a Signature Moment in 49ers Win
Purdyâs big run was the signature moment of a 15-play, 95-yard drive that culminated with a 1-yard touchdown catch by tight end George Kittle. It pushed the lead to 31-10 late in the third quarter.
Asked afterward about the play, Purdy seemed amused.
“The whole ball fake at the end, I was like, ‘Bro, what did I just do?,’â he said. âBut in terms of just running down the sideline and scrambling and making a play, obviously it felt good.”
49ers Keep Pace in Hotly Contested NFC West
The 49ers tacked on a pair of Eddy Pineiro field goals in the fourth quarter to hold off the 2-12 Titans and improve to 10-4.
The Rams and Seahawks share the NFC West lead at 11-3 heading into a pivotal matchup in Week 15.
The 49ers have won four straight and five of their last six, with the lone loss coming to Los Angeles in Week 10.
Purdy, who missed time with a toe injury earlier this season, has thrown for 1,442 yards with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He had only 43 rushing yards prior to Sunday.
