Real Madrid are confident Kylian Mbappe has not suffered a serious injury after withdrawing from international duty with France.

Mbappe was on target as Les Blues eased to a 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan on Friday but was forced off in the 83rd minute with an ankle problem.

France are back in action against Iceland on Monday but the Real Madrid star will have no part to play in that game, instead returning to the Spanish capital for treatment.

Mbappe took a knock to the same ankle in Real’s victory over Villarreal prior to the international break and trained away from his international teammates leading up to the Azerbaijan game.

‘It’s the same ankle where he was hurt. The pain decreases when he rests,’ France boss Didier Deschamps said.
