With his nose visibly damaged, the forward was immediately sent to hospital where doctors confirmed he had suffered a broken nose.

There were initial suggestions that he would be not able to feature against Netherlands, but Deschamps has since confirmed that he could be available in time for Friday’s match.

He said: “I can confirm that Kylian Mbappe is feeling better and all is evolving well to see him available for tomorrow.

“It’s moving in the right direction.”

Despite the severity of Mbappe’s injury, his team-mate Antoine Griezmann was quick to joke about it during a press conference.

Asked about the possibility of the Real Madrid star being available, he responded: “We will see until the last moment, depending on your feelings.

“He’s very well, his nose is a little deflated!”

Mbappe will now have to wear a mask for the remainder of the tournament while he recovers.
