Kyren Williams Praised After Turning Heads in Rams’ Week 9 Victory

Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams rushed for a season-high 114 yards in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints. He climbed the all-time leaderboards as a result, earning recognition from his organization, head coach Sean McVay, and quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Notably, it was Williams’ first game of the season without a reception.

Still, the landmark performance put the 2023 Pro Bowler at 586 yards and 3 touchdowns on 132 carries this season.

First, Williams surpassed Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis during the Rams’ win over the Saints, moving into 12th place in franchise history. He later passed former stalwart Cullen Bryant for 11th in the organization’s all-time list.

Moreover, Williams’ touchdown against the Saints moved him into 23rd place for most rushing TDs in their first 35 career starts.

He has been prolific in the modern sense, too.

“That score marked Williams’ 37th scrimmage touchdown since the start of the 2023 season,” Los Angeles Rams PR posted on November 2, noting it is the “second most in the NFL, behind only Jahmyr Gibbs’ 38 in that time.”

The Rams selected Williams with the No. 164 overall pick of the 2022 draft, and they signed him to a three-year, $33 million contract in August.

He has continued to deliver as expected.

McVay praised Williams, whom he lauded before the two sides agreed to the tailback’s extension this past summer.

McVay said postgame that Williams “ran really well” and that “it was good” to see him score.

“I feel like that’s the Kyren I’m used to seeing, I always see. I thought he and Blake [Corum] did a hell of a job today. Physical. A bunch of runs that kind of got strung out that I would hand it, and I’d be doing my fake on the backside, and I kind of lose him in there,” Stafford said.

“Next thing I know it’s second-and-2. He was doing a great job of picking and choosing and finding lanes and running physical. There was that one run down late in the game by the goal line, he got hit behind the line of scrimmage. And then, all of a sudden, he’s down to the 2-yard line. He did a great job running. So, just happy for him.”

Up next for Williams and the Rams is a road tilt against the San Francisco 49ers, who beat LA in Week 5 on “Thursday Night Football.”

Blake Corum Complementing Kyren Williams

Corum has provided a fine complement to Williams in the Rams’ backfield. He set season highs with 13 carries and 58 yards in Week 9. The No. 83 overall pick in 2024, Corum has 54 carries for 251 yards and 1 touchdown in 2025. Corum posted a 58-207-0 line in 17 games last season.

Stafford joked that he was “getting too old for this s***” after going for a block during one of Corum’s carries.

He added that he was “just playing” and told Corum to “quit cutting it back.”

Entering “Monday Night Football in Week 9, the Rams rank 11th in rushing. That is higher than Stafford and their high-powered passing attack, which ranks 13th. With two capable ball carriers, the Rams could be well-suited for any cold-weather games they may play later this season.
