On Sunday, world No. 1 ranked men’s tennis player Jannik Sinner of Italy faces No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in a matchup that must be all-too-familiar to tennis fans at this point. Sunday’s U.S. Open men’s final will be the third straight Grand Slam final of 2025 pitting Sinner against Alcaraz.
That has never happened before. Sunday’s showdown will also act as the rubber match of the series after Alcaraz upset Sinner over five sets and 5 1/2 hours at the French Open in May, followed by Sinner’s comeback in the Wimbledon final in July, dropping the first set to the Spanish player and then taking the next three.
But while it seems impossible to predict who will win the U.S. Open final between the epic rivals, another mystery surrounds the native of Sesto Italy — a town in the Italian alps where the dominant language is not Italian but German — who turned 24 on August 16. This puzzle concerns his off-the-court life.
The defending U.S. Open champion may or may not have a girlfriend. And if he does, she may or may not be Danish model and Instagram influencer Laila Hasanovic, also 24 though eight months older than Sinner.

She is a Miss Universe Denmark Top 10 Finalist
In 2019, at age 19, Hasanovic entered the Miss Universe Denmark beauty pageant, but failed to win. But she did make it to the finals, meaning she was among the top 15 contestants.
She Previously Dated the Son of an F1 Racing Legend
In April, the tabloid newspaper The Sun reported that Hasanovic had split from her boyfriend and, reportedly, fiancée Mick Schumacher, a Formula One racing driver.
If his name sounds familiar to F1 fans, that’s because Schumacher is the son of Michael Schumacher, the seven-time F1 world champion who is often considered the greatest driver in the history of the sport.
According two the Sun report, Hasanovic was invited into the tight-knit Schumacher family’s “inner circle” and was the first of Mick Schumacher’s girlfriends allowed to meet his famous father — who sustained a serious brain injury in a 2013 skiing accident. His true condition is kept a closely guarded secret by his family, but apparently Hasanovic in one of the few family outsiders who now knows what it is.
She and Sinner Bonded Over a Love of Gelato
Though they have not confirmed that they are even in a relationship, the owner of an increase shop called Santo Gelato in Monte Carlo, Monaco, told the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sport that Sinner and Hasanovic are frequent customers, and that they are, in fact, a couple.
“Sinner and Laila Hasanovic live in the La Condamine district of Monte Carlo. Our shop is right under their building,” gelato entrepreneur Nicoletta Stampfl told the paper. “I really liked Laila, she is very nice as Jannik is.”
Stampfl said that the pair speak to each other in English.
The Possible Couple Have Dropped Clues About Their Romance
Hasanovic has reportedly been sighted watching the competition at Wimbledon from Sinner’s own private box, and was seen at the French Open also.
Other report claimed that Hasanovic was at the tournament’s simply to represent fashion brands she endorses.
Meanwhile, Sinner told Corriere Della Sport that is indeed “in love,” but he declined to give the name of the object of his affections. But sharp-eyed fans say that they spotted a black and white photo of the Danish model on the Lock Screen of Sinner’s phone, in U.S. Open TV coverage.
She Embraces Her Bosnian Heritage
Though Hasanovic was born in Svendborg, Denmark, her surname is of Bosnian origin and that’s because both of her parents are from the southeast European country of Bosnia and Herzogovenia. She reportedly speaks the Bosnian language as well.
