Lakers’ Bronny James Flops Again, Validates ‘Worst Player in NBA’ Tag

Second-year Los Angeles guard Bronny James went scoreless in 20 minutes of action against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, validating claims that he may be the “worst player in the NBA.”

Among the 414 players who’ve taken the court thus far in the 2025-26 season, Bronny remains one of the few who have yet to score a field goal. The son of LeBron James is averaging 0.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists from 11.5 minutes per game.

Another worrying trend is Bronny’s high turnover rate. The 21-year-old has coughed up three turnovers in his limited time handling the ball, and is a -7 on the floor thus far.

Bronny James Struggled in Preseason

The USC alum did not fare any better in the preseason. In four games, he averaged 6.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 25% shooting from the floor. Bronny, regarded as a knockdown shooter in high school, has also struggled with the deep ball at the pro level. He shot 2-of-13 from three (15.4%) in the preseason, a continuing trend from his rookie season, when he shot 9-of-32 from deep (28.1%) in 27 regular-season games.

Bronny’s preseason struggles led to severe backlash, with former Lakers center Kwame Brown calling out his former organization for encouraging nepotism.

“And for every young man that thinks that you can just be the president or you can get in the league and you gonna get a fair shake at it,” Brown said on his YouTube channel, via BasketNews.com. “I think LeBron James situation just proved. [Expletive] the narrative that they tried to say, ‘Oh, it’s nepotism.’ No, I think this LeBron James situation just proved that politics is in everything.”

Should Lakers Waive Bronny James?

After Bronny’s stinker on Monday, Lakers fans on social media had a lot to say.

“I just watched Bronny get cooked on defense, turn over the ball twice, and then again get lost on a switch,” wrote one user on X. “The Lakers are shorthanded but it’s absurd that this kid is an NBA player. There are substantially better guys that never get a look in the league than him.”

Another fan termed Bronny the worst hooper he had ever seen.

After the Lakers’ season-opener against the Golden State Warriors, in which Bronny James did not see the floor, LakeShowLife’s Tyler Watts urged the franchise to cut bait with the second-generation player, arguing that Bronny was taking up a roster spot.

“It was a dreadful preseason for Bronny that put his flaws on full display,” wrote Watts. “It couldn’t be clearer that it’s time for the Lakers to move on from LeBron’s eldest son.

“The franchise dumped RJ Davis, who played better in the preseason, because he had a non-guaranteed contract. LA is hard-capped at the first apron and doesn’t have enough room to fill their 15th roster spot. If they cut Bronny, the Lakers wouldn’t be able to replace him.”

Bronny James is guaranteed $1.95M in 2025-26 and $2.3M in 2026-27, but could be cut by the franchise in 2027-28, when the Lakers have a team option on his rookie deal.
