Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson is using the power of music to improve mental health.
In an announcement on Tuesday, Johnson revealed that he is teaming up with leading health benefits provider Cigna Healthcare to help people address mental health issues.
“I’ve got something special for you!” Johnson said in a video posted on Instagram.
“I’ve teamed up with Cigna Healthcare to create ‘Magic Sounds’ – a collection of therapeutic sounds and music designed to help support your mental health. Music has always helped me stay grounded, focused, and uplifted. Now, I’m sharing that energy with you — to help you find your calm, your rhythm, and your balance.”
Magic Johnson Helps Communities
Johnson’s partnership with The Cigna Group dates back several years. Earlier this year, he teamed up with the healthcare organization to help local communities impacted by the devastating Southern California wildfires.
David M. Cordani, chairman and CEO of The Cigna Group, had thanked Johnson for his generosity and selflessness.
“In the aftermath of the fires, many local children remain without access to vital resources and are facing increased mental health challenges such as anxiety, fear and grief,” said Cordani. “…Mr. Johnson brought some much-needed joy and spread his special gift of positivity and inspiration to the kids and staff.”
Besides serving as a pillar of the Southern California community, Johnson remains a national sporting icon, even decades after walking away from basketball. Earlier this month, Johnson was unveiled as the Grand Marshal of the 137th Rose Bowl Parade.
Magic Johnson Has High Hopes for Lakers
While his off-court exploits continue to make headlines, Johnson remains passionate about basketball, especially his beloved Los Angeles Lakers.
Earlier this year, Johnson praised Lakers star Luka Doncic — arguably the best Lakers point guard since Johnson — for his physical transformation.
“I love how Luka is showing his Laker teammates how serious he is about winning a championship in Los Angeles by transforming his body!” Johnson wrote on X.
The five-time NBA champion had earlier criticized Doncic for not being in tip-top physical shape during the 2025 NBA playoffs, where the Lakers lost in the first round.
“Luka, it’s great what you did in Dallas, but the difference is in Los Angeles, we expect championships,” Johnson said. “And we expect our superstars to lead us to a championship. LeBron has already did that, now we want Luka to do the same thing.”
“We shouldn’t have to tell you to be in shape. You should have been about that, especially since you’re a superstar,” he added.
Doncic, currently sidelined with a finger injury, leads the NBA in scoring this season, averaging 46.0 points, 8.5 assists and 11.5 rebounds through two games.
