The Los Angeles Lakers have officially listed Luka Doncic at 244 pounds entering the 2025-26 NBA season.
Doncic’s weight was revealed as part of the Lakers’ training camp roster sheet, as shared by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Interestingly, the Dallas Mavericks listed Doncic at 230 pounds exactly a year ago, and the Lakers website continues to list the Slovenian at 230 pounds.
So, did Doncic — who underwent a physical transformation this offseason — actually lose weight? According to one user on X, Doncic weighed 230 lbs as a rookie in 2018, and the Mavericks likely did not update their internal listing over the years.
The user speculated that Doncic likely weighed in the range of 260-270 lbs last season, and shed at least 25 lbs this offseason, as evidenced by his leaner frame.
It’s also worth noting that, shortly after the Mavericks traded Doncic to the Lakers, a report suggested that he weighed over 270 pounds.
Luka Doncic’s Physical Transformation
The varying reports on his weight notwithstanding, it’s undeniable that Doncic trimmed down significantly this offseason.
According to Men’s Health magazine, Doncic committed to a new workout and diet regimen this offseason, which includes 16 hours of intermittent fasting six days a week.
“This offseason, every day but Sunday, Doncic fasts from 8:30 PM to 12 noon the following day. That’s 16 hours with nary a calorie, with the first workout of each day performed at the end of the fasting window,” wrote Andrew Heffernan. The report added that, as part of his new regimen, Doncic consumes only a gluten-free, low-sugar diet, including “at least 250 grams of protein and one almond milk–fueled shake a day.”
Doncic’s new body was put to the test during the EuroBasket, where the Slovenian made history on several counts, while helping his country reach the quarterfinals.
Slovenian Teammates Amazed
During the tournament, two of Doncic’s Slovenian teammates, Edo Muric and Aleksej Nikolic, were amazed by his physical transformation. Both players claimed Doncic’s new body has helped him improve as a basketball player, especially defensively.
“Yeah, he’s faster and jumps more,” Muric told BasketNews after an exhibition game against Lithuania. “And this year, I expect him to be the best version of himself.”
“It’s super hard [to defend him],” added Nikolic.
Nikolic, who played with Doncic in the last two EuroBaskets, Tokyo Olympics, and FIBA World Cup 2023, went on to make a tall claim about his star teammate.
“I mean, everybody’s talking about his fitness. Of course, he said that he’s in a lot better shape. And I mean, he’s just being him. Not too many, let’s say, differences about that.”
Luka Doncic owns the third-shortest odds to win the NBA MVP this season, with many analysts expecting the seventh-year guard to produce his best-ever season. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin feels Doncic is primed to win his first Michael Jordan Trophy.
“First, he transformed his body with a rigorous workout and dietary regimen. Then he signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Lakers. And he topped it all off by leading Slovenia to the quarterfinals at EuroBasket, averaging 34.7 points per game in the international competition.
“Is the 26-year-old Doncic — with the third-highest regular-season scoring average and second-highest postseason scoring average in league history — ready to continue his trajectory and earn his first MVP along the way?”
