Lakers Sign Award-Winning Leading Scorer Amid Series of Roster Moves

With NBA free agency winding down, the Los Angeles Lakers made a series of roster moves involving promising rookies. The Lakers announced the signing of guard RJ Davis, forward Eric Dixon, forward Arthur Kaluma and guard Augustas Marčiulionis to new deals.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, all four players were inked to Exhibit 10 deals. Dixon may be the most intriguing name of the bunch as the forward led college basketball in scoring at 23.3 points per game in 35 starts for Villanova in 2024-25.

The forward is also a three-time member of the All-Big East team.

Here’s what you need to know about the Lakers’ latest moves.

What Is an Exhibit 10 Contract in the NBA?

Fans may be wondering about the exact details of an Exhibit 10 contract. The short summary is that the move gives the Lakers maximum flexibility with Dixon and others, potentially converting the deal to a two-way contract.

“An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn’t guaranteed,” Yahoo Sports detailed on July 12, 2024. “It can also include an optional bonus of up to $75,000 that will be rewarded if a player, after he’s waived, spends at least 60 days with a team’s G League affiliate.

“This makes the Exhibit 10 contract a helpful tool to bring in players to compete during Summer League for a roster spot on an NBA team or its G League affiliate. Each team can have up to six Exhibit 10 contracts at a time,” Yahoo Sports added.

“An Exhibit 10 contract can then be converted into a two-way contract, which would also make the bonus money guaranteed.”

Eric Dixon Gives the Lakers Another Potential 3-Point Threat

Undrafted players like Dixon face long odds to not only make an impact but secure a spot on an NBA roster. Yet, there are reasons to be optimistic about Dixon.

Not only is Dixon a bucket getter but the forward is also a threat from long range, shooting 40.7% from behind the 3-point line last college basketball season. As the Lakers continue to look for shooting to surround Luka Doncic and LeBron James, Dixon could have a path to earning a spot in the team’s rotation.

Lakers Forward Eric Dixon Is Being Compared to Julius Randle & Glen Davis

Heading into the NBA draft, Dixon was Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor’s No. 46 ranked overall player. The NBA analyst sees shades of Julius Randle and Glen Davis in Dixon’s game.

“Dixon always had touch throughout college, and it finally translated beyond the arc as a super senior, making 40.7% of his 7.2 attempts per game,” O’Connor detailed on Dixon. “For NBA purposes, he’ll play off-ball a lot and he made 43.2% of catch-and-shoot 3s, per Synergy.

“… Villanova used Dixon all over the floor. He’d go from a primary creator one play to using off-ball screens on the next to posting up down low. Though he won’t be such a high-usage player in the NBA, he could plug into different roles for his team.”

LeBron James Is Likely Entering His Final NBA Season With the Lakers: Insider

James’ future with the Lakers continues to be the story of the NBA offseason. League insider Marc Stein believes James will be playing for a different franchise in 2026.

“I believe that the 2025-26 season, purely speaking in a predictive voice, will not be LeBron’s last,” Stein wrote in a July 26, story titled, “What’s next for LeBron James.” “I repeat: This is something only he can really know and more of a gut-feel read from me rather than reporting, but I fall into the camp that expects him to announce to the world that a certain season will be his last before it starts.

“… I believe that, by saying what I just said in the previous paragraph, it means that I expect him to retire in a uniform that isn’t purple and gold. It’s pretty clear at this juncture that the Lakers have launched the Luka Dončić Era. It certainly appears as though they are approaching the 2025-26 season as LeBron’s last in Tinseltown.”
