Lamar Jackson Goes After Fan In 41-40 Loss to Bills

The Buffalo Bills pulled off a remarkable comeback, beating the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night. The Bills were down 40-25 with less than ten minutes left in the game. Buffalo came all the way back to win a last-second Matt Prater field goal.

While the story of the game was how the Bills and quarterback Josh Allen came back, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had himself a night in the loss. The two-time NFL MVP had 209 passing yards, two thrown touchdowns, and 70 yards rushing with a score. However, one of the biggest storylines from Jackson on the night wasn’t something he did during the play.

In the third quarter, Jackson threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins, bringing the score to 34-19. As the Ravens players celebrated in the end zone near the Bills’ stands, a Buffalo fan tapped Hopkins on the head. Jackson was upset to see his star receiver being attacked by a fan, so he jumped up a little into the stands and shoved the fan.

Jackson Was Protecting Hopkins

Jackson took it upon himself to ensure that nobody would mess with him or his teammates. There was no penalty for Jackson, and it’s yet to be known if the fan was ejected from the contest.

Usually, when there are incidents between fans and players, the NFL reviews them to determine who started the altercation and whether either the fan or the player should face some form of punishment.

The only camera view of the incident is from the NBC Sports crew, which shows the fan starting the incident by hitting Hopkins on the helmet. Unless there is another camera view that shows the Ravens player staring at it, then it’s on the Bills fan.

Protecting the players from fans is very important. The NFL makes it easier to prevent fights between fans and athletes, thanks to a massive wall that separates the two.
The NBA has a little harder time protecting players from fans since fans sit right on the court. There have been many instances where an NBA player has asked an official to eject a fan due to something the fan said to them.

Bills Will Look to Win The AFC

Other Bills fans also had a bad night, as many left the stadium when it seemed their team was on the verge of losing. Mike Tirico on the NBC broadcast pointed out many Bills fans who left the stadium and wanted back in.

The Bills looked great in the fourth quarter, and now they could be the team to beat in the AFC. The win over the Ravens puts the Bills in the driver’s seat to get the No. 1 seed in the conference.

If Buffalo can knock off the Kansas City Chiefs, then the Bills should be able to get through the AFC East and the rest of their schedule, giving them home-field advantage through the playoffs.

The Bills will head to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
