The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for their 2025-26 season, and it’s an exciting time for MVP-winning quarterback Josh Allen and company. If there was ever a time in the history of the Bills’ franchise that they could foresee themselves getting to the championship and bringing home a win, it’s now.
It was an absolute thrill to see Allen win the MVP award earlier this year. He beat out a bevy of talented quarterbacks, including Lamar Jackson of AFC rivals the Baltimore Ravens. He won Most Valuable Player because of his proven record and numbers, but he’s also a great guy off the field and respected by his peers, which says a lot.
Jackson, although those who love the Bills might not want to admit it, is also a strong quarterback who is respected by his peers. Many thought it would come down to him or Allen winning that MVP award last season, and it did. But, Allen, beat him out. What does Jackson have to say about that?
Lamar Jackson Comments on Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen
The discussion over whether Jackson has been passed up for too many MVP awards is continuing in to the 2025 season. On Wednesday, September 3, he was ask during a presser for the first time about Allen winning the award last season. Those in the Ravens’ camp, of course, including players and coaches, have said on the record that they believe Jackson should have won the award for his stellar 2024 season.
Jackson had a short but strong message about getting passed up for the award. “The voters chose who they wanted to pick,” Jackson said. “It is what it is. It is what it is.”
So, the five-word message is clear: “It is what it is.” It was a blunt response, and who can blame him? It’s more fun to win than to lose, but really, both of these players are winners.
Josh Allen Named One of the Best Quarterbacks in the NFL
Allen also beat out Jackson on ESPN’s recent tally of the best quarterbacks in the league. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reached out to coaches, executives and scouts to name their top quarterbacks in the league going into the 2025-26 season.

Allen was named the No. 2 best quarterback in the NFL, only behind Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Jackson was No. 4 on the tally, so he was behind Allen, Mahomes and No. 3, who was Joe Burrow. This reporter would have put Jackson above Burrow, but that wasn’t how the ESPN tally shook out.
“Allen’s standing in our top 10 series has been a journey — and a point of contention in Buffalo,” Fowler states in the feature. “Since the series started in 2020 until 2023, Allen’s place in the quarterback pantheon was universally celebrated among voters inside the league and highlighted in this piece annually. He became, unquestionably, a top-shelf quarterback in the league.”
It’s great to see Allen get so much recognition going into the new season. Jackson had a decent response to not getting MVP, and he was obviously a bit hurt by it. But, that’s what new seasons are for. Let this rivalry continue.
