LeBron James Reacts to Devastating Caitlin Clark News

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James sent a heartfelt message to Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark, who confirmed on September 4 that she will miss the remainder of the WNBA season with a groin injury.

James wrote: “Minor setback for a MAJOR COMEBACK!! Rest up, get healthy and be YOU! 🙏🏾🫡👑”

Tyrese Haliburton, Fever teammate Lexie Hull and Liberty All-Star Sabrina Ionescu also shared words of encouragement for Clark while responding to her emotional message on Instagram.

Caitlin Clark Thanks Fever Fans

Clark, who was previously expected to recover from the groin injury, penned down a lengthy post thanking her teammates and fans for their unwavering support.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season,” she began.

“I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.

“The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs🖤”

Clark Idolizes LeBron James

The encouraging message from James must have hit home with Clark, who admittedly idolizes the NBA superstar and considers him the G.O.A.T. of pro basketball.

“That’s one of my idols. LeBron is the GOAT to me,” Clark said at the start of the WNBA season, while responding to James’ good-luck wishes.

She also thanked James for being a huge fan of the WNBA.

“He really does follow the WNBA,” Clark said of James. “He watches and he loves and appreciates basketball and he loves and appreciates the way the Fever and my teammates play. I didn’t see [his post] before the game, but a lot of people sent it to me.”

Clark’s announcement comes nearly two months after the superstar point guard suffered a groin injury on July 15. Initially, it was widely believed that she’d rejoin her teammates before the end of the season, helping them in their playofff push.

However, the All-Star reportedly suffered a setback in her recovery process when she sustained a bone bruise in her left ankle during a private workout session on August 7. Understandably, Fever’s medical and coaching staff did not force Clark back to the court, fearing long-term injury concerns, allowing her to make a full recovery.

Even without Clark, the Fever have a 92.8% chance to make the WNBA playoffs, according to the ESPN WNBA Basketball Power Index 2025. As of September 5, the Fever (21-21) were 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks (19-21). They have three regular-season games left — against the Chicago Sky, Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx. If they can win two of the three, they are a lock for the postseason.
