The Detroit Lions appear to be trending in the wrong direction at the worst possible time. After suffering a 31-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day, the Lions have now lost four of their past seven games, throwing their playoff hopes up in the air as we enter the homestretch of the 2025 regular season.
Making matters even worse is the fact that superstar wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was forced out of this game early with an ankle injury. Detroit is becoming pretty battered, and losing St. Brown had a big impact on its passing attack in this game. However, the team received an encouraging injury update on St. Brown’s injury status that will surely appease fans.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Week-To-Week with Ankle Injury
A fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, St. Brown has quickly established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the league. After earning three Pro Bowl selections and a pair of First Team All-Pro honors, St. Brown has kept pace again this season, as he has 75 receptions for 884 yards and nine touchdowns through 12 games.
Against the Packers on Thanksgiving, though, St. Brown was forced out of the game early with an ankle injury. Detroit managed to keep things competitive, thanks in large part to a big outing from Jameson Williams (7 REC, 144 YDS, 1 TD), but they ultimately weren’t able to overcome the loss of St. Brown.
Anytime a player is forced to leave a game early due to injury, it typically isn’t a good sign, and there was real reason to be concerned about St. Brown’s injury status. The team received good news, though, as it believes St. Brown has only suffered a low ankle sprain. While he will likely miss time, he should be back sooner rather than later, with a stint on injured reserve not expected to be necessary.
“Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is believed to have suffered a low ankle sprain (Thursday), sources say, and while he continues to be evaluated, it’s good news so far on his chances for returning sooner than later,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported. “Detroit plays just one game in the next 16 days: Dec. 4 against Dallas. At this point, Amon-Ra St. Brown is not expected to land on IR and likely will be week-to-week as the Lions enter the stretch run.”
Lions Need to Figure Things Out After Latest Loss

The Lions were already on the outside looking in when it comes to the crowded NFC playoff picture, but this loss to the Packers has made things even more difficult for them. With both Green Bay and the Chicago Bears ahead of them in the NFC North, Detroit’s only real shot of finding its way into the postseason right now would be by earning a wild-card spot.
Simply put, if the Lions want any shot of returning to the postseason, they are going to have to figure out how to get back to their winning ways. Doing so without St. Brown is going to be easier said than done, and a suddenly difficult matchup against the red-hot Dallas Cowboys looms in Week 14. There’s no doubt St. Brown’s latest injury update is encouraging, but if Detroit keeps on losing, it ultimately won’t matter when he returns to action.
