Lions Player Gets Into Another Heated Fight at Practice

The Detroit Lions are having some joint practices with other teams, like everyone in the NFL, and that means players are seeing some familiar faces. Many of the players in the NFL have played for multiple teams, so they might know players on the other teams from their time elsewhere or even from their college football days.

While it can be a friendly thing to run into an old colleague, sometimes it’s not. Just like with anyone in life, there are some people that you probably never want to see again, and the same is true for NFL players.

Now, Detroit Lions star wide receiver Jameson Williams is getting into it, again, with former Lions defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu. Thankfully, the two got broken up before things escalated, but there’s not a lot of love between these two right now.

First, on Wednesday, August 13, a little fight between Williams and Melifonwu broke out during the Lions’ joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. Coaches and teammates had to get between these two to make sure things didn’t get too heated, and they broke up the quarrel.

Now, on Thursday, August 14, towards the start of the second joint practice session, it happened again. Williams beat Melifonwu on a long throw, and the Lions favorite took the chance to make sure his former teammate knew, which didn’t go over too well. The two had to be broken up yet again.

In a post shared on X by Colton Pouncy of The Athletic on Thursday, Pouncy shared what he witnessed at practice.

“First play of a new team period from the 50-yard line, Goff launches a BOMB to Jamo for a touchdown. Perfect pass,” Pouncy stated on X. “Jamo blew by Ifeatu Melifonwu and was immediately in his face talking. Saint came over to break it up before it escalated.”

It’s difficult to know what the beef is between Williams and Melifonwu, but it seems like they have drama dating back to the days when Melifonwu was on the Lions’ squad. Thankfully, nobody has gotten hurt during these tiffs, so it’s all okay, for now.

Not the First Fight at Detroit Lions Practice

To elaborate on the fight on Wednesday, reporters C. Isaiah Smalls II and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald shared that the day’s joint practice ended with the Williams and Melifonwu tiff.

“Practice ended with a small skirmish; the Detroit News identified Dolphins (and former Lions) safety Ifeatu Melifonwu and Lions receiver Jameson Williams as the participants,” they stated.

So, emotions are getting high as the season approaches, and that makes sense. But, Williams better watch it, because he’s already had two separate suspensions by the NFL, one for violating the league’s rules against gambling and the other consuming a banned substance, so let’s not add on field fighting to the mix.

Williams is one of the most talented wide receives in the league. He has too much to lose to be getting into fights like this on, or off, the field.
