There are going to be some changes at home for Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff — diaper changes specifically.
Ahead of a pivotal season for the 30-year-old quarterback, Goff and his wife, Christen, announced the birth of their first child and daughter, Romy Isabelle, on July 15, in a joint Instagram post.
“Heart is bursting into a million pieces,” Christina wrote, sharing the post on her story.
The couple announced they were expecting in February after getting married in June 2024, according to People.com.
“I’m looking forward to becoming a dad,” Goff said on the NFL Honors red carpet, per People.com. “I can’t wait to watch [Harper] be a mom.”
“I know he’s going to be the best [dad], and it’s just gonna be exciting to do this together as a team,” Harper added.
In the photo carousel of their Instagram post, Jared can be seen holding his baby daughter along with several maternity photos featuring Christen.
Jared Goff Met Swimsuit Model Wife Christina Harper Through Dating App
It all started for the Goffs in 2019 when they met unexpectedly on a dating app while both lived in the Los Angeles area.
“I was truly not looking for anything at the time,” Christina told Sports Illustrated in 2022. “I had just gotten out of a long relationship and I was trying to stay single for a year. Then I met him and the rest is history, baby.”
The couple dated for a few years that included the turbulent trade to the Lions in 2021 after Jared made a Super Bowl run with the Los Angeles Rams just two years prior.
In his first season in Detroit, Jared snapped a 15-game losing streak. Christina was captured reacting to his late-game heroics while she was on set for a swimsuit shoot with Sports Illustrated.
That win proved to be building blocks to much more, not only for Detroit, but for Jared and Christina.
The couple got engaged in 2022 and married in 2024 before they announced their expected pregnancy in February.
Lions, Jared Goff Dealt Major Respect Ahead of Pivotal Season
Jared enters a pivotal season with the Lions where Detroit will be pressed to break through to the Super Bowl after two close runs the past two seasons. His cap hits in the following years of his contract will make it more difficult to build a talented roster around him.
However, Jared’s NFL counterparts believe he is fully capable.
ESPN polled executives, coaches and scouts, who ranked him the No. 8 quarterback in the NFL.
“Three years ago (heck, even two), placing Goff in the top 10 was a bold move. Now, it’s rare to find a ballot without his name on it. Goff appeared on 82% of the top-10 submissions,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on July 14.
“He’s developed into one of the game’s best pure passers,” a veteran NFC defensive coach told Fowler. “He doesn’t turn the ball over like he used to. He’s a reliable quarterback with a real arm. He’s not just a dropback passer who makes s— happen. He’s become more than that.”
Last season, Goff ranked second in the NFL with 4,629 passing yards on the season. He also led the league in play-action yards (1,972) and 15 touchdowns, per ESPN.
“He’s improved in his ability to reset his feet and deliver the ball accurately, and it’s changed his career,” a veteran AFC scout told Fowler. “The coaching staff in Detroit gave him a greater sense of calm in the pocket, and he’s capitalized on it.”
However, with Ben Johnson gone, Goff must prove that he can do it on his own after benefitting from two of the best offensive play-callers in the NFL in his ear throughout his career.
