Lions Star Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Leads to Fantasy Football, Betting Decisions

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown saw an early end to his Thanksgiving, but the controversy over how betting and fantasy football platforms reacted to his injury is raging on.

St. Brown was hurt in the first quarter of Thursday’s game, getting hit from behind while blocking for running back Jahmyr Gibbs. With St. Brown leaving so early, some betting outlets were forced to make a decision on how to handle wagers that involved him — though fantasy football owners were more out of luck.

Some Betting Outlets Cancel Amon-Ra St. Brown Bets

St. Brown was able to leave the field under his own power, but had a noticeable limp. He was taken to the locker room for evaluation, and the Lions announced shortly afterward that he would be questionable to return.

He remained out for the remainder of the first half, causing some betting outlets to announce that they would issue refunds for bets that included him.

FanDuel announced that they would be monitoring St. Brown’s status after the injury and could refund bets if he was not able to return.

“We’re aware that Amon-Ra St. Brown left the game during the 1st Quarter with a possible injury. His status is being monitored,” the platform announced. “We will provide further Bet Protect updates as they become available.”

DraftKings issued a similar statement, noting that some customers could be eligible to get their money back.

“EARLY EXIT WATCH: We are monitoring Amon-Ra St. Brown’s status,” the site announced. “If he does not return in the second half, eligible customers will receive Early Exit cash credits within 24 hours.”

ESPN Bet also announced that St. Brown’s wagers would be canceled — as long as he remained out of the game.

If he’s out for the remainder of the game, our Injury Insurance kicks in. Don’t sweat it,” ESPN Bet shared in a post on X.

Fantasy Football Owners Not So Lucky

While some of those who wagered on St. Brown may get a chance to get their money back, those who had him on fantasy football teams have no such recourse. Many of the owners took to social media to complain about his early exit and lack of production. The Lions got off to a slow start on offense, with St. Brown leaving the game with no yards or receptions.

“Amon Ra St Brown done before I’ve even eaten Thanksgiving dinner. My fantasy game over. Dinner ruined,” one fan shared in a post on X.

The long-term implications of St. Brown’s injury were not yet clear, but an extended absence could also devastate fantasy football owners, especially with the playoffs coming around the corner.

St. Brown’s injury could have more wide-ranging implications for bettors and fantasy football players. The Lions are expected to lean more heavily on their other offensive players, including Gibbs and wide receiver Jameson Williams.

The Lions picked up after a slow start on offense, scoring a touchdown on a David Montgomery run and later on a Jared Goff pass to Williams.
