Cody Gakpo headed in the opener after catching out Arsenal’s scrambled defence before Luis Diaz doubled their advantage with a tap-in.
But after the break, Mikel Arteta’s side were reborn as Gabriel Martinelli headed in minutes after the restart.

Mikel Merino got a deserved equaliser in the 70th minute, heading in a rebound after Martin Odegaard’s thunderous effort was tipped onto the woodwork.
That set up a grandstand finish, only for Merino to pick up a second yellow card, leaving Arsenal to hold on with 10 men.
Liverpool, whose fans loudly booed Trent Alexander-Arnold throughout, pushed for a winner and nearly got it in the last second through Andy Robertson, but a foul on Myles Lewis-Skelly denied the home side.
