The Premier League also released a statement on the ‘shocking and appalling events in Liverpool’.

Merseyside Police said a 53-year-old white British man has been arrested.
‘We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre,’ a spokesperson said.

‘We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.
‘Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.’
Hundreds of thousands of Liverpool fans had been celebrating the club’s Premier League title win before the incident on Water Street.
The Liverpool squad travelled around the city on an open-top bus, 24 hours after lifting the Premier League trophy.

Arne Slot’s side became English champions almost a month ago but had to wait until the final day of the season to get their hands on the trophy.
After lifting the Premier League trophy in his first season in England, Slot said: ‘It’s always special to win something, but at certain clubs maybe a little bit more.
‘I experienced this at Feyenoord where the fans are so passionate, and it’s the same and more over here.
‘I don’t think you expect anything like this. If you look at the Premier League in the past few seasons, it was always a race to the end – two or three teams competing to the last day.
‘To be part of it was already nice, let alone to win it.’
