New Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is keen to add Joe Gomez to his ranks this summer, but Liverpool are not interested in selling the versatile defender.

After a lengthy, eventful and quite embarrassing search for a new manager, the German giants plumped for the Manchester City legend who was relegated as Burnley boss last season.

It is a fair old gamble from Bayern, but the Belgian is being given the chance to prove himself at the top level and wants to put his own stamp on the team.

The Mirror reports that Gomez is one of the names on Kompany’s shopping list, with the Bayern boss impressed by the England international’s adaptability.

The 27-year-old has played at centre-back and in both full-back positions for the Reds, even slotting into midfield at times.

The former Charlton man has had a fine season with Liverpool, playing 51 times in all competitions and earning himself a recall to the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

He remains under contract at Anfield until 2027 and the Mirror’s report states that Liverpool have no intention of selling him to Bayern or any other suitor this summer.

Incoming manager Arne Slot is still to assess the squad, bring in some new signings and put his own stamp on the team but Gomez is believed to be an important part of the club’s plans.

Gomez has had to deal with a number of injuries over his Liverpool career, while competition for places has been fierce, but the season just gone was arguably his best since joining the club in 2015.

His 32 Premier League appearances is the most in any campaign so far in his career, while the total of 51 in all competitions is also the most he has managed.

Remarkably, though, in 224 appearances for Liverpool he is still yet to score a goal.
