Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has revealed his plan to stop Liverpool’s ‘fighter jets’ in their box office Champions League clash this week.

Liverpool head to the French capital 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League with the title seemingly within their grasp with 10 games remaining.

In Europe, the story has been much the same, losing just once in their dead rubber against PSV Eindhoven with qualification already secured in January.

Arne Slot’s side could be without Cody Gakpo after the Netherlands international missed Liverpool’s final training session at Melwood before flying out for Wednesday’s clash at Parc de Princes.

The forward missed recent games against Wolves and Aston Villa but made his return off the bench in the victory against Manchester City at the end of February, also coming on against Newcastle United last Wednesday.

There is ample firepower in his absence in Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota who have notched 51 goals between them this season with the Egyptian claiming 30 of them.

But Enrique believes he has a plan to neutralise Liverpool’s potent attack.

‘They are one of the best teams in Europe on the counterattack,’ Enrique told a press conference on Tuesday.

‘We will try to keep the ball and not suffer too much in the transitions.

‘Stopping their three fighter jets is not easy. If we manage to impose our style of play, we will manage not to suffer too much.

‘The goal is to be better and for them not to hurt in the transitions.’

He added: ‘There are some differences between the two teams. Liverpool want to attack but we need the ball.

‘Maybe they don’t need the ball as much to impose their game. There are nuances and differences. Each coach tries to do his best.’

PSG have not lost a game in any competition since their defeat away to Bayern Munich in November, also beaten by Atletico Madrid and Arsenal in the initial league phase.

The French champions came from two goals behind to beat Manchester City to rescue their European campaign before putting 10 past Brest across two legs in their play-off round.

Ousmane Dembele has netted 26 goals in a terrific personal campaign for the Frenchman.
